All,
I have my Reed 205 back together and had question about the large ball at the end of the screw, that the vise handle passes through. There is a blind, untapped hole on this ball where indicated by the arrow in the photo below. Was this the turning point from when it was made, or does it...
Hello all. I have a Reed 105 swivel vise that I cleaned up a few years ago, but never fully re-assembled. Getting this sorted is one of my Pandemic projects, but I have an issue.
In the photo below you can see the collar that pushes on the movable jaw, and the hole in the screw that it...
Material strengths are measured in psi or kpsi. The higher the value, the better the material can withstand stress before breaking. Google "Ultimate Strength of Materials". Cast irons have tensile strengths in the range of ~ 20-120 kpsi.
I also use mine dry because I'm paranoid about the hose bursting and taking the paint off the car. I refill the brake fluid reservoir after bleeding each corner.
If you have a German car, spring for the nicer version with the metal cap for the brake reservoir. Cars without screw on caps...

BMWs had a nice tool kit fitted to the underside of the trunk. They still do, but its not close to what was provided back in the 70's.
Older Ferraris and Mercedes had really nice tool rolls, now worth many thousands of dollars.
All the air cooled Porsches had tool rolls with plated wrenches...
Ragtop - The only reason to remove it would be to clean it and apply some sort of rust protection, but I like the idea of not messing with this at all. Thanks for the common sense suggestion.
Which brings up another question I have. My plan is to prime and paint all the non-moving surfaces...
GETRIDAONE - Thanks. Yes, I'm thinking this won't be so bad. Looking forward to having it in pieces. It makes sense that I have to drive the pin out from the bottom, I saw the tool that Gregthor made, and will do something similar. Will the pin be re-usable? I see you saw my question about...
