Help Need Advice on Current Setup

Hey guys! Been awhile since I visited last when my new garage was built. Despite all of the issues it turned out good. BIG Thanks to all of you who offered me advice! Well now I need to order and install the 4 post storage lift I have been putting off for awhile now. I am in Chicago and my...

Help...Issues with Contractor and New Garage

Thank you for all the replies and advice, it is much appreciated! I had a death in the family on Thursday, wake Friday, and funeral today so I haven't been able to get back on here. I will get more details and give you an update tomorrow morning.

Help...Issues with Contractor and New Garage

Yes I talked to the lift company before starting the garage to make sure there were no issues. The lift company said that a 4in slab at 4000psi was good. The slab is also reinforced with welded wire and fibermesh. No plumbing. I'm in the City of Chicago, and I'm sure that they don't have...

Help...Issues with Contractor and New Garage

One thing that I forgot to mention is that there is a cathedral ceiling so that I can install a car lift in the single bay. And the double bay has a loft above for storage.

Help...Issues with Contractor and New Garage

Sorry I was not ignoring you, I just haven't gotten to everyone's replies. No isnpection has been done yet. I didn't even know that it was necessary. Again, I am not the professional in the carpentry trade. However, I just requested an inspection by the City of Chicago, and will hopefully see...

Help...Issues with Contractor and New Garage

As I mentioned in the first thread, I got a permit from the City of Chicago myself. The permit simply states... Description of permitted work: Remove existing frame garage and replace it with a new 27x22x15 max ht. metal frame (structural metal studs with 2 layers of 5/8 gypsum board at each...

Help...Issues with Contractor and New Garage

This is ridiculous, why should I have to prove that I did my research to any joker who thinks I didn't do any. I researched this for 3 flippin months before signing a contract. I got 10 estimates between $15k-25k. I compared all of the estimates including all materials and numbers. I also called...

Help...Issues with Contractor and New Garage

Wow this is pretty harsh. I came on here for your opinions and advice and you say I am stupid and lazy. I am NOT a Carpenter or an Architect, nor did I go to school to become a Carpenter or an Architect, nor do I do business in Carpentry or in Architecture. If I hire professionals who know the...

Help...Issues with Contractor and New Garage

I am a working professional, not a Carpenter or an Architect, and I put my trust in these people to do their jobs. I am not stupid but I do know shoddy work when I see it. Why else would I have started this thread. I appreciate all of your comments and suggestions and I see that you guys feel...

Help...Issues with Contractor and New Garage

Again, this is no joke. I will get more pictures later today. I actually had an Architect do the drawings on this because the Contractor was denied a permit the first time. I originally wanted a 24x28 garage and drawings were required by the city because it was over 600sqft. Attached is some...

Help...Issues with Contractor and New Garage

This is no joke. Per City of Chicago Code the garage must be constructed with steel studs and 2 layers of 5/8 drywall on each side of the stud. There is not sheathing and its all stainless steel so no rust. I called the lumber yard and they said that all the lumber is #2 or better. The...
