Hey guys! Been awhile since I visited last when my new garage was built. Despite all of the issues it turned out good. BIG Thanks to all of you who offered me advice!
Well now I need to order and install the 4 post storage lift I have been putting off for awhile now. I am in Chicago and my wife's car has been on the street all summer. Snow is around the corner and she wants that 2nd spot in the garage, 3rd spot is for lift. Anyhow, I am having an issue with the 8x7 door opener. The roof is pitched so that the car is lifted into the pitch, and so the door opens on an angle on the pitch. Well the builder installed a regular 1.5hp Liftmaster opener with 1 spring that has worked now for 2 years. However, the cables recently detached (they did not break) and I'm not sure why, but I need it repaired so that I can open the door and install the lift. I had a garage guy out and he said that he would like to put a 3hp motor on there and 2 springs for more lifting power. Also, he pointed out that the arm (track for door to open) is not just one piece but several pieces. I didn't realize this but I do know that when the door openend the whole arm flexed as if it wasn't stable enough.
My question is...do I need a stronger motor and 2 springs? or do I just need to get a once piece arm that is more stable?
By the way, the guy said that he cannot install a jackshaft opener because there is no room.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Ken
