    Heat detector

Just something to account for, but a simple temperature sensor may not do what you want unless you're calculating a delta like @dcg9381 mentioned above. The reason for this is that there are plenty of non-fire reasons that a sensor may give off a high temperature reading. The sensor could be...

    Blueprint/Floor Plan Software

I hear you on the trust issues. I knew my current place was a fixer-upper, but I ended up redoing a lot of it, starting with the foundation. I looked up the county records, and saw decades of work that had been duly permitted, performed by licensed contractors, electricians, and plumbers, then...

    Siga and Rockwool . . . worth the $?

This is the key that gets lost when we watch these systems being demonstrated. There's not always anything special about the materials themselves, but they come with specifications for installation that cover all the details that usually get missed. I'm doing a major renovation on my house right...

    Icon Ratchets?

For what people want for rusted out used tool truck ratchets, I'll take the 40% off ratchets and enjoy not needing to hold my pinky out when I use them. 😛

Accounting for slab movement in a pole barn?

How much movement are you anticipating? I'd just fasten them however you're able and check the legs once in a while to make sure they're all still on the floor.

At home "hardware store"... what do you keep an inventory of?

Or, everything that I could buy just one of and thought "If I buy just one, I'll probably lose it. Might as well buy two just in case, and then buy one extra because I probably counted wrong somewhere."

    Pocket Gophers got me!

I don't recommend trying to repair CAT-5, especially in a ground contact situation.

Garage PPE-- the best and worst of Personal Protective Equipment

I tried these before, and I ended up switching away from them. The foam stuff that they're coated with made me lose too much sensitivity and dexterity. Now I use the nitrile dipped ones that you can get anywhere. I like the combination of grip and sensitivity that I get. I've tried a few...

    Pocket Gophers got me!

Yep. Either one will probably work. I have a set of Unifi GigaBeam's connecting the main house to my MIL's house, and they work great. When I build my big shop, I'm moving my office and main rack out there, so I'll probably get one of the Unifi 10Gbit bridge setups.

At home "hardware store"... what do you keep an inventory of?

Sounds like they'll get your money twice if you're throwing stuff away at the end of a project. I consider holding on to extra stuff to be cheap insurance. I've already spent the money, and it'll save me gas and time in the long run.

    Pocket Gophers got me!

    I'll do it for $2700. 🤣

    Custom Boxes

My wife manufactures and ships products in lots of different size boxes for her business, and I've been down this rabbit hole. Truly custom boxes will cost you an arm and a leg for a one-off project. There are thousands of vendors out there, and they've all got lots of options, so you might not...

    Craigslist Dreamers

These are the ones that get me. It's one thing if it's an antique, or older tool that it known to be bulletproof. Yeah, it's fine to quibble a little over price. When it's a tool that I can still buy unbroken, brand new, with warranty, it better be a screaming deal. I always see brand new, in...

    Project Farm's Jack Stand round-up!

I'd also add that he was probably also trying to not destroy the jacks. He damaged that one early on because the wheel came down on it. It seemed like they were a little narrower after that. Not really relevant to the tests, but more a limitation of the testing circumstances. It's possible...
