    You have a lot of different ones. http://justacarguy.blogspot.ca/2010/08/hood-ornament-identifiaction-guide.html The 51-52 Chrysler imperial with the ring and the wings (in the last of your photos) is my favorite but the one beside it (with the external point/loop) looks like 41 terraplane.

    I thought it would have to be geared more than 2.91 but the 291 (which is a factory available ratio) written on the ring gear threw me off.

    Merr That is a factory 64 Impala rear end not a Ford. Thomas will know all the details but it should be an earlier Salisbury style rear with 8.2" ring gears. Looks like 2.91 gearing.

    Loosen all the bolts and measure corner to corner and adjust the frame until it is square. Re-tighten bolts using some type to loctite to hold them from vibrating loose.     I did that for years. Get another small bucket with a lid, a funnel and an old electric kettle. Take water with you and after the office is closed you can make hot water to wash your hands.

    Cool story Caspian. Reading this thread always makes me think of the garage my dad took the car and his trucks to as a kid. That shop was similar, but they worked on heavy duty equipment and dump trucks mainly, so there was oversize everything everywhere. I also still remember the smell.
