VCT disappointment

Noticed that after sitting unmoved for about 5 days on my new Armstrong Excelon vct floor, my 62 Vette and 72 El Camino both left tire impressions in the tile. I'm not going to commit suicide over it but I'm a little disappointed, especially since the daytime temps are running in the low 90s and 100 is not unusual here in the summer.

I put a spare vct tile under each tire so we'll see what happens. Maybe I just need wider tires.

Could you tell us if you coated the tiles with any kind of wax/sealant?

That wouldn't matter if they are sinking into the tile. He said impressions not marks :)

I used a bit of VCT tile in my moms, and it seems the Armstrong you buy at HD/Lowes is different than what's in commercial stores.. it's quite soft and I can easily see it not holding up to 100+ degree temperatures.

At the time the cars were parked the tiles had not been waxed/sealed. I noticed the impressions when I moved the cars to wax the floor.

I've been researching floor treatments on this forum for quite a while now and haven't noticed any other complaints of this type. Am I the only one with tire dents in my vct?

Should have sealed the floor before putting anything on it. The tiles are very porous to absorb the sealer and wax. Otherwise a 30year tile won't last 30days.

Just curious, what size notches are in your trowel? I'm wondering if the notches were too large, leaving too much adhesive. Maybe the depressions are actually the tile compressing the adhesive.

I've had mine in for over a year now, and I get no dents on mine, even with my bike lift, 400 pounds, and my bike, 600 pounds, on four small steel contact points. I can't see how tires can compress the tiles as they are way too dense. IF, however, the tile was laid on top of too thick of cement I could see the soft cement being compressed.

Asked wife who is my in-house expert on tilting. She believes that there is a high probability that you "raked" the glue with a tile trawl rather than a VCT trawl.

A glue trawl merely spreads the glue.

I have never had that problem, parked cars, rolled tool boxes, etc... For over 5 years no issues with leaving depressions in The floor. Some times the Vette would sit for months.
Btw... Waxing the floor does not stop the tires from staining the tile.
