I've had MDF tops on my two wood working benches for about 18 years. I treat them every few years with linseed oil. It does a fairly good job at protecting the surface and doesn't transfer to my wood projects. When I need to do something really dirty, I put down some rubber mats.
Just picked up the grinder for $15. I figure the wheels and led sheilds are worth that if I part it out down the road. If it's really bad I'll just return it.
Even better deal when you throw them in the 14% Bag. I bought a few the other night at the Toledo store. They only problem is they have hundreds just thrown in a big box in the clearance isle. Makes it kind of hard to find what you need.
I just lay a short piece of 2x4 on the floor where it needs to stop. Same principle as the mat. Mark the floor where it goes so that it can be moved and replaced when needed.
old drill chuck with a long bolt mounted to the input. Put the item in the chuck and tighten it up. Doesn't damage the threads like vise grips and is smaller for better control and turning at the wheel.
I put all my battery operated tools in that drawer. I think I fit in about 7 (drills, router, sander, jigsaw, etc.) It's a little clunky to get some out when the one you need is at the bottom, but it's not like I use them everyday and it was a good use for that size drawer.
I've always got mine free from the quick lube places. I think they are 35, but might be 30. Usually I get the ones used for transmission fluid, but have a few from oil. They look kind of cool too, since they have company logos painted on them, like Valvoline and Quaker State.
