Do I need metric drill bits?

I seriously doubt I will ever own a metric drill bit unless it is given to me. I agree with the others - not needed.

What Is The Best TYPE Of Breaker Bar?

I was thinking the same thing. And TWO breaker bars at that. I've got an older ratcheting Snap On breaker bar that I've put some serious torque on with a cheater bar.

Looking for beautiful tire pressure gauge as gift

I posted this one in another recent thread about tire pressure gauges. Simple, non-didgetal, works very well, made in Germany (by Drager). Beauty, of course, is in the eye of the beholder. But if it doesn't work well, I don't care how pretty it is. Added bonus if it's a European car your...

How Many Of You Guys Make Your Own Punches And Awls

I've made several. It just makes sense when you've got a pile of old broken screwdrivers. Put me in the cheap category. Why buy one when thirty seconds on the grinder does it? I did make one with a special bend it once while installing new carpet during a Chevelle SS restoration. With some...

    tyre/tire pressure gauge thats accurate

I've seen a few Dragers in the $50 to $80 range, but I just Googled them and there were some vintage ones where they were asking upwards of $300. Seems some early Porsches came with Drager gauges, possibly. There's a bit of a following in the Porsche circles. I thought you could still get...

    Rusty Tools

Here in the mid-atlantic there's plenty of humid hot weather and cold winters. My most commonly used tools get wiped infrequently with what's already on them at the time, i.e. motor oil, grease, WD-40. Some get nothing and I've never had a rust problem. I guess it's a problem in some areas...

    tyre/tire pressure gauge thats accurate

Interesting, thank you. I didn't know that. Yeah, I don't think there are any $300 ones my future!

    tyre/tire pressure gauge thats accurate

I wonder if there's any way to have one repaired, or if it would even be worth it. Some of them are pretty nice.

    tyre/tire pressure gauge thats accurate

I'm definitely not an authority on it, but I don't know if you can get that kind of precision with a tire pressure gauge. I think just an estimate is all that's needed. I guess the higher end ones will give you the best estimate though.

    tyre/tire pressure gauge thats accurate

I got this Drager (made in Germany) from my grandfather. Works very well. I think you can still get them today for around $50. Expensive, but very nice. My Grandfather was a British auto mechanic who moved his family to the states in 1964. You can see this one has had some use.

    Best tool and runner up

Much wisdom here. Very deep indeed!

    Added 4 - 1930s 9/32 ratchet to my collection.

Very nice! Cool collection. I'm imagining all the vintage hot rods those worked on.

Best Torque Wrench for the DIY'er?

I just got the 1/2 drive Tekton, 25 - 250 ft/lbs for $60. I've used it a few times already and it's nice. Seems very solid. You do have to keep an eye on the torque setting since the locking nut on the end of the handle has a tendency to loosen. When it's happened it's only changed the...

    Oil Siphon Pump

Yeah, I don't think pumps and hoses would drain as much out either, though we're only talking about a lawn mower. I've never used one for oil, just gas. It's not a big deal to tip it over, but it could be a little hard if you're older. Some of these mowers are heavy. I have to hold the...
