    A spoking tragedy.

Maybe lace it with a different cross pattern, to use more spoke length?

Mechanics: Tips and tricks you've learned

NEVER trust the diagnosis of someone else. Find out what the complaint is and do your own, even if you have to do what they did and come to the same diagnosis. There is the exception, if the customer or whoever is paying you says, do "this" and do it "this way", then if it backfires you can...

    Help me identify this tool

#5 They are legs for a puller, usually a hub puller, hooks go on a disc with a bolt in the centre, to push on the axle/shaft. Eyes on the leg go over a stud on the hub and retained with a nut.

ESSO had canned oil in the 60's, they reckoned it was better, because it was protected from the elements. But the spout/piercing tool was usually covered in dust and insects!

    What is this?

In Australia they are often called "dogs". I remember a bloke had a tooth knocked out by one. Told his wife that he was hit in the mouth by a "dog" and it knocked the tooth out. The response was, "Yeah tell me another one"

I'm new, and have a question about drills

A lot of cordless drills have a speed control switch as well as a direction control switch, the direction control often has a lock position in the middle. Don't know what the lock mechanism is or how strong it is, worth a look though.

Help me classify some old generation tools

"Ratcheting device" post #1, I had one (3/8" drive) given to me, brand new, in about 1980. Never used it, EVER. In about 2010 I gave it to another bloke, also a mechanic, to this day he has not used it either! Well made very good quality, Sidchrome. About as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.

    Specialty Socket?

A multi hex socket will do it, although it probably won't be an impact socket. 6x2=12 corners inside 3x4=12 corners inside
