Omitted to say the snap on set lacks 16mm as mentioned on this thread before - could buy the 15-16mm one which is not in the set - but then would be doubling 15mm... and cost another £25-30 buying used

Bump into this old thread and thought I’d post my questions here:
I’ve a full set of 15d offset aviation spanners - snap on XDHM set from 8mm to 20mm - bought used on eBay for £135
I’ve heard / read it would be useful to also have a set of 0 offset?
My questions:
1) would a serpentine belt...
I guess cheap new tools are almost never better than old quality ones - unless paying $$$ to buy the best quality (probably talking about made in USA / Germany / France + hefty import duties) [emoji6]
So would rather pay something like 50 quid for an extra piece of 23KG checked in luggage...
Knipex Cobra came up multiple times - I do have a pair for my ‘plumbing kit’ but every now and then they find good use on car jobs - so I’ll pack al least one of these!
Vise grips - thinking one small size plus one big size.
And very good shout for the combo/multi-bit screwdrivers - though...
Thanks lot guys for the replies. I omitted to say I plan to bring a pair or two of vise grips (I have the Peterson ones which are just unmatchable).
And I’ll bring my extra long 3/8 flex ratchet for sure.
I’m still holding my offset ring spanners/wrenches quite close to my heart - there have...
My family and I are planning relocation to a different part of the world (from Europe to Asia), and likely I'll be forced to pick a minimum set of tools to 'fly with me'.
So after a few years of working on DIY car repairs, and accumulating not an insignificant amount of tools (many are old...
I bumped into this thread and appreciate it's been a while since the last post - but I had to comment!
What hasn't been mentioned is the usefulness of good old ring spanners - especially the deep offset versions. I got fed up with getting clearance issues with 1/2 ratchet + sockets as they're...
Dear all
I currently have the following 'good' pliers:
- 9 inch lineman's
- 9 inch needle nose
- 11 inch needle nose
- 5 inch circlip pliers x2 (internal and external)
- 7 inch circlip pliers x2 (internal and external)
The above pliers are all from good makes (SO, Channellock, Knipex).
I also...
I actually have the simple JL.171 - the head is slim enough to un-do brake caliber bolts in very tight set-ups. I've had it for 2 years now and the handles held up really well despite all the sprays, oils and fluids and anti-seize I've smeared onto it - it just wipes clean really well.
I'm really sorry to hear that - and good to know ebay refunded you. I would only buy new SO tools from ebay provided the saving (vs SO website price) is good enough. I really hesitate to buy used SO - unless it's wrenches that you can tell from the looks if they've been carefully used, or a pry...
That's a great video - thank you for sharing it!
I noticed at about 1min24sec - ALL those pliers have roughly ground sides!!!
I suspect, this is either due to:
- the design (which I still struggle to comprehend - unless they are going for the Gransfors Bruks forged look???)
OR
- the steel...
Guys please take a look at this pair - 497ACF - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Snap-on-Needle-Nose-Pliers-7-Long-Angle-Jaw-Red/264669735253?hash=item3d9f8ba955:g:hekAAOSwD75eb9y6
Look at the 1st pic (similar rough grinding on the side), 3rd and 5th pics (some rough grinding on the inside of the jaws...
Yes - you're totally right - lesson well learned!
The ebay seller posted just 1 pic showing 'front view' but not the sides. And I thought these are SO so why do I need to bother with asking for more pics...? Never in a million years I'd thought there can be 'seconds' SO out there...
Selling...
