I have a set of the 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch drive metric and SAE IR sockets. They have a rather thin wall and will fit better than most other brand impact sockets. The downside is that they may not be as strong. I rarely use them though. When I need impacts I use my SO or SK impact sockets.
I agree, extensions are all you need when removing fasteners that require long reach. No need to buy unneccessary tools when the tools you have already do the same job. You would be surprised how much you can save not buying more tools than needed. It also frees up space in your tool chest...
If the ratchet head is too thick you can use a crow foot or torque extension to access those tight spots. If the torque is really high though the crow foot may not be a good option. Wobble extensions may also be usefull.

I have 2 split beam torque wrenches and they stay accurate long time with frequent use. You do not have to reset to lowest torque setting or break it in either. Highly reccommend it!
