You just move it with your hand. If you slide down to 6 then the holes on the bottom of each close. Like it adjust the depth of the hole. Nothing else seems to move when you slide these.

I have peg boards in my garage and kitchen! I painted the kitchen one and it has my measuring cups, spoons and small gadgets! Love it.
