Thanks Adam, it was the first vise I've restored. I have a 100 year old Reed that is next in line.

This is a 1912 Athol Vise-No 681 I picked up from CL recently. I'm pleased with how it turned out.

I've had mine a few years and almost immediately had to replace the cap. I used a coolant bottle cap with no problem. As many have noted on other threads, the center plug is worthless, I tossed mine after the first usage.

I have lots of different wrenches. It some tight spots, I palm a piece of sandpaper and get them off by hand.

Re: auto techs: how long before you where set with tools? x2 --Racking up major debt in tools makes little financial sense. At that point you are not working for income but working to pay off debt.

Do you lose torque foot pounds (+/-) if you use an extension on a torque wrench? For example, doing spark plugs with a 1/2 torque wrench (with a 3/8 adapter) or anything that is hard to reach and should be torqued. Not all of us have multiple torque wrenches to choose from. Thoughts?

The only time I use SAE is on my riding mower.

I have ratchets from everyone and my Duralast 1/2 inch is my go-to 1/2. I love it and have done everything with it. Thanks for your work on the tests.
