    RIP, old friend...

You have the right to remain silent. You have the right to an attorney. Anything you say can and will be used against you . . .

    RIP, old friend...

That really doesn’t sound like it was his failure. I would rule that his death was a homicide.

    RIP, old friend...

Why did you bury him without a wheel? What is he supposed to do in the afterlife?

Help me pick a flooring color

I would keep the floor plain and light colored. If you pick something with a lot of flakes in it sooner or later you will get tired of it. And you will also get tired of your wall color. But it’s a lot easier to repaint your walls than it is to redo your floor. So keep the floor neutral and...

    Sawstop Base Jack

Agreed. But in my view a high end mobile base should do better. It’s like the steering wheel not working on an Audi.

    Sawstop Base Jack

Yesterday I had to replace the hydraulic jack in my Sawstop table saw’s industrial mobile base. It’s a pain in the rear sort of job for one person and involves a big *** pry bar. Fortunately my neighbor wandered by looking for his afternoon beer and helped. I am a bit miffed that the jack...

    Grounding Boxes

Ontario is big on attaching a ground wire to the box that is used for a switch, lite etc. Obviously connecting the ground wires is needed. But what good does it do to also connect a ground to a metal box when that box is only attached to wood framing? Or if it’s a plastic box?

    Critique this Service Change Quote/Scoping

When was your home built? You have Fuses, so before 1950s? Any knob and tube or deteriorating cloth romex? Are outlets all grounded? Your quote is vague as to what the cost would be to replace/fix these things if they are needed. Consider pinning this cost down. Also make sure that wire and...

The Klein Tool addiction thread! :)

Isn’t that what every manufacturer is doing? Over specialization is rampant. Dewalt probably even makes a battery powered nose picker. Consider Eklund, as discussed in another thread. You can’t just make the same old Allen wrench. People have already bought all of those that they need. If...

Eklind Is Closing Its IL Plant

Trying not to be too political here. If I owned an Illinois plant I would be worried about that states’ public employees pension obligations and how those would be paid. And I would compare production costs in strong and in weak union states.

    Retaining Wall Advice

I am no expert but would consider a retaining wall a last resort to fix a drainage problem. Perhaps tiles or a swale would be an alternative? Last thing I would want is Junior Evil Knievel from next door using your wall as a launching pad.

Talk me out of buying shop space vs. moving.

The older I get the simpler I want things. A shop next to my house is simple. I certainly would not want anything with rules or a HOA. Less drama and conflict that way.

    New Milwaukee MiUSA screwdrivers

Wasnt the same thing done by the good folks in Nebraska who tried to recreate the original made in the USA Vice Grips? The USA can certainly crank out very high quality tools. But at what cost? They can be made cheaper overseas. Is this good or bad? Your college macro Econ professor...

Tools that actually look nice and have some form of aesthetic

Starret squares and micrometers. Wooden machinists chests. CNC stuff will never be as elegant as old machinists stuff.
