    SOW Headquarters

Nice, where did you get that compressor, and if you don't mind me asking, how much was it.

Project "Machine Shed to Man Cave"

Nothing wrong with giving new life to an old building. Does it have a poured concrete floor in it?

Need help from architects, carpenters and/.or builders

It is less work to put a hole in a block wall with a hammer, then it is cut a hole in plywood with a sawzall. The only way to secure it with the block wall would be to fill the cores with concrete, but your typical concrete slab-on-grade is not designed to withstand that kind of load. I think...

    Gotta fix my (leaning/derelict) garage!!!

Nice work! Theres no need to special order 20' 4x4's for a sill. I would just use treated 2x4's in whatever length that works out to have the least waste. Just be sure to have an anchor bolt at the end of each plate, and I like to see them every 4' on center although 6' is usually the maximum...

    Job gone wrong

Life as a contractor is hard enough during slow times, without having to take a hit like this. When hired to do a job, you expect this job to keep you and your employees busy until the job is complete and you can start the next job you have lined up. No one thinks about the employees and...

Loft that a friend built, how safe?

I think it looks alright. The beam clamp is quite innovative. You CANNOT drill through the bottom flange of a steel beam. You can sleeve holes, weld tabs, etc. to the web, but you cannot modify the flange. I would however change out the drywall screws in the joist hangers to joist hanger nails...

    Cordless Drill Recomendation

Working in commercial construction, I have either used, or know trades who have used most every brand. In my opinion, Makita's 18v lithium ion line is hard to beat, and seem the be the only lithum ion's that have a decent life in the cold. Dewalt, rigid, and milwaukee seem to be decent, though...

Rv overhang lean to vs truss's

Really, there is no advantage to using trusses to span the 44', and leaving 10' of it open. If you are already putting up a new building, the only real extra cost associated to enclosing all 34x44' is an overhead door. A dividing wall to separate the 2 spaces could be as simple as a 2x4 stud...
