Treating slightly rusted metal prior to primer & paint: Phosphoric acid vs zinc phosphate vs manganese phosphate?

As someone who coated an entire dipped and cleaned car body with Ospho, I was concerned with what I read and saw regarding SPI Epoxy over Ospho - especially trying to rewet and wash it all off. There is a video online of person testing SPI epoxy adhesion over Ospho - and the epoxy doesn't adhere...

    Thoughts on slab moisture issue

I am in Dayton Ohio area - summer humidity is actually very low (compared to east coast), and basement slab has warmed up. I have a dehumidifier running now - entire house is down in the 40-50% range and daytime humidity outside tends to run the same or lower. Even with basement down to 40%, I...

    Thoughts on slab moisture issue

We moved in last October, but the slab was poured in January before that. I just did a calcium chloride test, on top of the painted concrete and I got back 3.5 lbs per 1000 sf. So not really high. If both under slab vapor barrier and paint were failing I would expect higher. I think I have to...

    Thoughts on slab moisture issue

I did put a lid on the sump pit soon after i moved in due to a damp smell - it is a radon mitigation solution and seals well. Also, I have confirmed the sump pump dumps to a drain run from the house and is working. The sump pump rarely runs and when it does, water is coming up from below, not...

    Thoughts on slab moisture issue

@LLWillysfan I agree with all observations - I can't seem to reconcile this as below slab because of how much I saw (not so much puddles as the picture implies, but many damp spots). Even with a vapor barrier failure I was surprised to see actual surface moisture. I thought i ruled out...

    Thoughts on slab moisture issue

thanks for the reply - yes we had moisture under boxes and plastic tubs so that and the efflorescence (white spots after water evaporates) make me think this liquid is coming from below. Also, using a laser thermometer showed the slab at the same temp as the copper water pipe and lower walls -...

    Thoughts on slab moisture issue

I have a new house with walk out basement. 1/2 the basement is unfinished (the part that is fully underground) and this is my mechanical room it is roughly 15' by 60' with a sump pump near the center of the long side, and against the framed bearing wall (so 15' off the exterior wall). There is...

NEW Soft Launch TruAlloy Aluminum Urethane Garage Coating

What do you recommend for floor prep - acid or grind - will the coverage rates on the web site work for grinding? Also my SF is 1047 - will a 1000SF work out ok if I grind? I should add that this is new concrete - 6 months old, very smooth finish, so I am already planning to rent a 30 grit...

Diamabrush vs. Grinder... Plus some other epoxy prep questions.

I stopped by my local Home Depot to see what they had - the had the diamabrush for rent, and although it has vacuum pickup, the guy said none of their vacs work well with it and just do it wet. I have plenty of time to let things dry, but really didn't want to introduce all that water - but...

    Sill plate attachment question

I doubt the inspector will look for anything more than a bolt with a nut and washer on it. I did find this that says sleeve anchors are ok in block https://www.confast.com/articles-cinder-block-fasteners/ - but they are different than wedge anchors

Sikaflex haze is ruining my new Epoxy floor

I have used wool pads to buff some heavy textured surfaces in the past - but I also use a variable speed buffer too.

Sikaflex haze is ruining my new Epoxy floor

I wonder if rubbing compound and buffer would work better.... I have buffed textured spas aggressively in the past with something like this (better brand)...

Garage and Workshop coating suggestions - new slabs

It sounds like you favor an epoxy primer over polyurea direct to etched concrete?

Garage and Workshop coating suggestions - new slabs

Is there an expectation of longevity/adhesion for acid etch vs mechanical ? Many mentions that mechanical (grinding) is better, but nothing quantifiable is mentioned. So far I just see that grinding may require primer. But is 30% more cost equal to 30% increased life span?

Garage and Workshop coating suggestions - new slabs

I am still comparison shopping as I tend to over think things. I see Roll On Rock from garagecoatings.com - they offer a full broadcast system for quite a bit cheaper then others - they claim that non-skid is not needed for most garages. I assume they are less expensive (over $1000) because all...
