Vise restoration procedures, techniques, and parts acquisition...

Bill, I appreciate it, however, I think it's do for restoration and use. It is marked 12-46 so it has a bit of history along with it. Think I'll give it away to a deserving party when I'm done with it when my number is called.... Regards, Matt

Vise restoration procedures, techniques, and parts acquisition...

fwiw, It's funny. I have 2", 4", and 6" Wilton Machinist Vises, all on swivels, from different eras. The 2" weighs about 4 pounds and is just a tiny version of the others. It is perfect mechanically but needs sand blasting and likely a powder coat. The 4" is my gunsmithing vise I bought...

    No love with Snap-On...

Vinko, In my field I sell the "Best in the World" BAR NONE. Dunno as SO is even comparable as they sell SOME great tools and SOME rebranded items that are nothing more than average... As posted above the only guys that get a "steal" are those who've earned it with blood and sweat. I think...

    No love with Snap-On...

fwiw, Guys I don't keep receipts, and often don't ask for them when dealing with folks I trust. I will say that in retrospect you ARE LIKELY correct on the pricing totals. My original percentage calculation came from the HD Road Chest which was, IIRC, on special. That said it was priced with...

    No love with Snap-On...

Guys, Regarding the "OP not getting the response he wanted" you are correct. I had NO IDEA so many of you pay retail. That you are happy to do it makes me wish I were a Snap On Dealer...;) I was not looking for affirmation or a group hug. I was, as another poster pointed out, looking for a...

    No love with Snap-On...

Gentlemen, I've bought a bit of Snap-On in the last 5 or 6 years, including a HD Road Chest, however I have always paid cash to one dealer in particular and his prices have always been 35-40% off the retail price. At any rate I stopped at the guys house, he lives right down the road, and...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Gentlemen, Apologize for no pictures, however, I have three vises that I consider "mine" and only one bolted to a bench. Three Wiltons Actually. A 3.5" Machinist Vise bought new 3 years ago, an identical 6 or 7" Wilton Machinist Vise, owned by my dad, in need of degreasing and a paint job...

More of a Barn Floor than Garage Floor Question...

Gentlemen, I know it is bad form to post on topics that may have been answered, however, I thought this one might qualify for a pass. It is more of a barn than a garage... It is a pseudo pole barn built with full cut 8"x8"x20' Salt treated Poled and 5 rows of Salt 2x12"s. All of the 2x12"...

    Pressure washer???

fwiw, I would suggest Pressure Pro if you can swing it. They run Honda Engines and Cat pumps(if you so configure) on an aircraft aluminum frame. A professional product that is a wee step ahead of what Home Depot/Lowes Sells...imho http://www.pressurewashersdirect.com/ My choice fwiw...

    super clean

Scratch that... I though you were talking of their actually parts washer fluid. Would not imagine a water based "castrol super clean" would interact well with your petro cleaner. If indeed you have one....fwiw & imho.
