    Learning to WELD!

Your doing good. Think we've all been there, I did a welding course a few years back, could have done a 6G code the next year but life got in the way. Do I regret it, yeah, but could I have changed things? no, not at the time. (hell and I'm only 36 this year.) Its interesting as I'm in the UK...

    Auto Body Repair Technology!

When I did a fabrication course a few years back, one of the tutors was a time served body repair tech, and he said it wasn't just welding stuff together anymore, its reading the repair sheets and understanding what you weld and where and using which process and knowing what you stick together...

fixing a stripped out alu hole

not even sure the stud was heat treated, GM don't list in the parts catalogue, doesn't seem that hard either...the aluminium would likely strip out before the bolt shears off, by a country mile... IIRC 12.9 can be quite brittle, due to it being so hard... Put it this way its a £700 / $900 car...

fixing a stripped out alu hole

Cheers guys, Got it sorted out, re ran the helicoil tap down the hole, blew it out with compressed air, inserted the helicoil, tried a stud - snagged on something before the helicoil, ran an M8 tap down, cut the burr or whatever was stopping the stud threading in. Used a high tensile 8.8 bolt of...

    Making Chord/Hose Totes Waterproof

Danish oil works pretty good also on wood, water just beads off and can be touched up without sanding down. However I've found most ply recently to be junk (mainly as a lot of it sold in my area is Chinese and their "exterior grade" is anything but) As someone older and wiser told me years ago...

fixing a stripped out alu hole

So on my Saab, one of the injector clamp stud holes has stripped out (my fault didn't screw the stud in far enough) Tried helicoiling it but she won't hold, don't think there's enough left for it to get a decent grip. Its a diesel, so the compression is pretty darned high, when it stripped the...

    Power Tool Part Frustration!!!!

Another way to get parts like triggers is to look for any numbers on the side of the trigger switch, often they are bought in from another company, and asking that vendor if they still supply it / does it cross match to a newer part I take it that its a brushed drill?

Using a car oil filter as a compressor air intake filter

I will try and get out to the garage in the next couple of days Filter has a UNF fitting on it, compressor was 1/2 BSP (so ~19ish mm) Bought an adapter from a hydraulics / pneumatics supplier screwed the adapter into the compressor and the filter onto the adapter

Using a car oil filter as a compressor air intake filter

Its a cheap hobby compressor, the filter it came with was a chintzy piece of plastic with a piece of what appeared to be dish cleaning sponge as an airfilter Plus I'm in the UK, so a lot of the decent filter brands are sadly either not for sale or crazy money here... Oddly I find the oil filter...

Using a car oil filter as a compressor air intake filter

As subject Anyone done this and any comments on flow? I have a hobby compressor and replaced the sponge foam type element with a spin on type oil filter to hopefully improve filtration and intake flow, however I'm not sure on how well its sucking air in.,...
