long story short, the wrong compressor came in (SS4L5?)... I started researching the SS5l5 and noticed that A LOT of people have been having problems with IR recently.
so with that said, maybe this...
I ended up finding a company that may have a new check valve that will solve all my problems... hopefully that pans out. I needed a new check valve any way so this will be an easy solution if it works out.
looks like I am just SOL... everyone that I have talked to , (including the companies torque1st recommended) are telling me that these fittings are practically none existent and if I do find them they will be ungodly expensive...
time to look for a new pump to get rid of this headache
in typical fashion... this mystery fitting is on a Harbor Freight compressor head.
here is the manual for it. the fitting is listed as "outlet" in the manual. I measured the fitting size and thread pitch and it is correct at 1"-16

That is precisely the problem I am having is finding this mysterious 1"-16UN that the manual is calling for... If I could find that fitting with different adapters, I would be golden. I could make up a series of connections like Steevo is recommending and get myself down to...
need help on what to do... I have a compressor pump that has 1"-16UN male output fitting on it with a 1"-16UN compression nut on it.
I am needing to adapt down from this 1"-16UN male to 1/2" compression which is what the compressor tank (check valve) accepts.
Any other solutions are welcome...
thanks for the advice kevin. If i do decide to restore it, i will break everything down and completely redo it the way that it was when it was new.
for right now i am going to get it into a proper usable condition and keep any further degradation from happening.
from some of the searching i did, the looks of the box (i.e. molded plastic handles on the drawers, leather wrapped carrying handle, script in the top of the box, and overall looks) the box could be anywhere from the 40's to the 60's. I wish there was a serial number or some other form of...
the script is definitely staying. so far, I have shop vac'd the **** out of it and wiped down the exterior and interior of the box nice and good with some WD-40. i also took a soft bristle tooth brush to all of the sliders and the script to get the junk out of it. i have to clean up the drawers...
