Cutting IKEA butcher block - workbench project

Yea RC, Bowling alley lanes do make awesome tops. My grandfather's top is made out of one back in 67' and still rock solid today. I'd be interested in buying some of your stash too if you were close :)

    Looking For Thinset Recommendation

Maybe grab a back of ultracontact form Mapei, or perhaps just one jug of Keraply/kerlastic and mix that it the thinset for those areas? That polymer supposedly helps adhesion.

    Garage Door Opener Mounting Locations

So my builder installs Wayne Dalton doors standard on all their houses. I had a garage door guy come out to give me a bid on installing a LM3800. He did mention having to swap out components of the torsion/spring setup but quoted me $500 including the opener. It was another $500 to convert the...

    Tile Questions

I may take you up on that. How many do you have? I'm going to be swinging by my folks place in Littleton this weekend either Saturday evening or Sunday. I bought a cheap one for my previous bathroom remodels and sold it when I was done. But for this type of tile I know those wouldn't "cut" it...

HF Bench Top Cut Off Tool

Any of you guys seen/used one of these? http://www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/cut-off-saws/bench-top-cut-off-saw-42307.html I thinking of primarily using it for that aluminum stair tread edging. I figured for under $30 it would probably save me a lot time if any good.

    Gladiator Flooring/RaceDeck on uneven concrete?

If the floor has a lot of dips and uneven areas you may want to think about using some leveler. I have a brand new house and currently having a hell of time with my porcelain tile due to the unevenness. I'd also recommend the landscape material as well for sound. How much did you get the...

    Tile install question?

Kind of depends on your garage. I'm stopping the tile at outside edge of the door and probably slanting thinset down to the slab edge. I may go with the Schluter Reno-V ramp for the transition.

    Tile Questions

Well it left overs from a pro bono project in the area. This guy volunteered to install 3-4 pallets of tile in some rehab projects. They had 3/4 of a pallet left and told him he could keep it for his work. It came down to having to get it out of his buddy's garage asap. Screamin deal indeed...

    Tile Questions

Yea I was originally planning to run them horizontal and avoid trying to run 40ft long straight lines back. But after sketching up the layout I found out I would save A LOT of cutting running it this way. Even though they are rectified and I could do smaller joint, I went with 1/8. Again it...

    Tile Questions

I ended up grabbing some good stuff from another guy on CL. 12x24 PEI V for .48/sqft. I've done tile before (blacksplashes, bathroom, showers, etc) but man the garage is a lot more work. One thing I would definitely do is use a self leveler. Its taking me 2-3 times longer to lay having to...

    Floor Tile

Dakota, thanks for the tips. The pic was taken mid day, I usually give the tiles a quick wipe down when I get the water bucket out to clean my tools each day. Ive never heard of the pencil trick, I just always drag the spacers through the joints to clear them out. Its going really slow with...

    Floor Tile

BLH, here's an updated picture with some of the tile down... Any of you guys that have done ceramic/porcelain tile installs, what was your average pace of sqft/hr for setting? I feel like mine is taking forever, but it's getting there. I have about 1/3 of the garage done. Going to stop soon...

    New House garage questions

Yup, good luck with that. I just moved in to my new construction home 2 weeks ago. They were willing to do certain small customizations for me, but not a lot. I wanted something similar done the side of my garage so I could but a regular door in to go to the back yard but they wouldn't...

    Expedient paint booth ideas wanted

I wish I had pictures of it, but the guy that recently did my body work had eye hooks in the walls. When he wanted to paint he had premade cables that attached and which he dropped that painting plastic over and taped up. Had some kind of air/filtration unit with squirrel cages and home furnace...
