    Sears Craftsman DP 113-21371

If you are drilling the pin out of a gear at the end of the shaft, don't drill all the way through. Drill the peened end and only go through the gear, not into the shaft. Use a bit that is slightly smaller than the pin and drill right in the center. Then you can drive the pin out with a small...

    Stanley J5 electric plane

Here is an ePay listing that contains the paperwork an lays it open for photos. Some funny angles and such, but possibly helpful(?). https://www.ebay.com/itm/135868566659

Show us your Shears, Scissors, and Secateurs!

Possibly. Seems a little inefficient though.

Show us your Shears, Scissors, and Secateurs!

Yes, the bent end fits into a hole on the bench and they provide a lot of leverage (hence, the broken bolt). I stuck an old bumper bolt in the hole as a temporary fix, so they look less busted until I get around to making a new one that actually fits. They seem awkward to use, since you're...

Show us your Shears, Scissors, and Secateurs!

I was at a sale this spring with two pairs of large shears and chose these, based the fact that they seemed a bit sturdier than the others. They were frozen, but I figured I could work them loose. It seemed like they were moving, so I pushed a little harder and twisted the pivot bolt in two...

Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

I recently found this wrench holder and didn't realize what it held until I noticed the variation in hanger spacing. There's a tab bent up at the back that's about an inch tall, with a few holes in it. Rather than drill holes in my box, I just tucked it in under the lid I rarely open. Since I...

Reed & Prince R&P 719–what’s this used for?

I think a standard Phillips will fit that screw better than the R&P (which appears to have been reshaped), but it is really hard to tell from where I am sitting. I asked google what type of fasteners were used on vintage Gibson instruments and got the following answer. Vintage Gibson guitars...

    The vintage Blackhawk Thread

I posted two of these jack stands in this thread five years ago and yesterday I purchased two more at the same Habitat store. They wanted twice as much money this time around, but I'm happy to have a set of four. I'll make plywood bases for the new two too, since I use them on gravel, or soft...

Confirm this Allan lathe is for valves please

Cool tool. I believe it is an armature lathe for electric motors and such. Yup, found it in the following 1948 catalog on IA. https://archive.org/details/allen-service-and-testing-equipment/page/n19/mode/2up

Whitman and Barnes Manufacturing Company (W&B diamond) tool pictures

I brought this little <W&B> #70 DOE home yesterday. I thought it was a Williams wrench, until I got it cleaned up. The pitting was full of fluffy-rust, but electrolysis fizzed it away. Apparently, Williams bought out W&B and the owner became the new Williams VP. (according to what I read on...

    Goodell-Pratt Company

I recognized the tubing cutter in the catalog posted above, so I dug mine out for a few photos. It is marked BARRETT, but I think Goodell-Pratt may have manufactured it; based on how similar it is. I don't think the little thumb screw is original on mine. I've owned this tool for...

Does this appear to be cadmium plated?

Here's one method I just learned- "Because cadmium plating looks almost identical to zinc, visual identification is nearly impossible. The easiest non-destructive test is the paper mark test: rub the clean metal surface firmly against a piece of white paper. If it is cadmium, it is a soft metal...

    Spreading the Bonney affliction!

Your March example resembles my Blackhawk and the December one looks like my Champion. I can't keep track of who made what - for who - when... but do appreciate the input.

    Spreading the Bonney affliction!

I had assumed this CHAMPION PLUG-MASTER CT-405 ratchet was made by BLACKHAWK, but after seeing the BONNEY examples above, I'm leaning towards it fitting into this thread. Both ratchets give sixty clicks per revolution, but the clicker is smoother and quieter in the CHAMPION.
