Questions about some vintage vices I picked up today

I seem to be wrong alot lol. Regardless, it looks to be in very very nice shape. It doesn't look to have any pitting from rust. Very nice. I was surprised how little slack/slop there was between slide and base on mine. And its not as nice as yours I do believe. I'm away at work for another...

Questions about some vintage vices I picked up today

I have a Stanley vise like the one OP pictured. It is very sturdy IMO as far a clamp on vices go. I do believe OPs is a "sweetheart" line though. Mine is not. Mr. 7.3444, is there a heart stamped by the Stanley logo on top of rear slide? I've read they are somewhat more desirable but I've never...

How does this C-Clamp work . What makes it get tight on the sliding bar?

I was wrong on my above post. Like you guys mentioned above, twist right to disengage and adjust. As soon as the handle is turned to the left, the pin/pins (larger clamps have 2 pins) travel up a small ramp and lock the shaft onto the "nut", the threaded part. After its locked together, the...

Automatic wire strippers for stranded (primary) wire? School me

I agree also. Looks like KBeefy has a pair in his drawer also. IMO, it may take a tad longer to position in right size slot than autos but they have never failed to give clean cuts with no cut wires.

How does this C-Clamp work . What makes it get tight on the sliding bar?

I have had one for years but it had been locked up in the roll pin/threaded area. I didnt want to clamp down hard and scar anything up. I happened to see it in a drawer about a year ago and started spraying it every now and then with penetrating fluid, all kinds. Well one day I picked it up to...

    Imperial Flaring Tool Query

Just when I think I've seen them all lol. So there is also a dowel that registers with the dimple on the dies?

    Imperial Flaring Tool Query

I've learned several things today. The first, the die sets I've used aren't designed to be used on all metals. Second, that would account for the slipping that I believed was a worn tool. Thirdly, I've been using mine incorrectly. Thanks to Mr. four.cycle, I've also learned the part number I...

    Imperial Flaring Tool Query

I believe I can see what you and Mr. Bart are saying about the anvil. My impression of the type is flawed seeing the only one I used at my first machine shop job was heavily used and the tubing tended to slip. I had thought about maybe taking a couple thousands from the parting line edges to...

    Imperial Flaring Tool Query

I thank you gentlemen for the responses. Where Mr. Beerhippie's is stamped 93F, mine has a number but even under a sciencescope it's no longer visible. I will be giving him mine for now and ordering the suggested example. It's a small price to pay for all he has given me. Thank you all again.

    Imperial Flaring Tool Query

Good evening gentlemen and possibly ladies. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of a part number for this flaring tool. It's marked IMPERIAL BRASS-CHICAGO. I can make out the patent number (NO. 1724697) but I don't see any other numbers. It looks like it's been engraved free-hand on the back...
