Has anyone ever written a "primer" thread?

Hi. Been here almost ten years, bought some nice tools from some people here, still using them, thanks, et cetera. After a decade of a leaky-roofed undersized garage with mismatched cabinets and bad lighting, I am two years away from building a big (4-6 car) garage with a lofted second floor...

    Recommend an Allen Key set?

Thank you all. I forgot how great this forum was. I have a bunch of Allen/hex sockets and they are the right tool 90% of the time but lately I'm working on the house more than the cars, and for jobs with hinges or chairs or drawers there isn't enough space to use a T-handle or a socket/ratchet.

    Recommend an Allen Key set?

Look, everyone makes one. I have a drawer full of them. They're rusty, disorganized, stripped, whatever. I want to put an end to this once and for all. Best value for the money (Europe, good Taiwanese, American, whatever). Lots of sizes, color coded, metric and SAE, probably ball-tipped...

Spraying solvent on a lot of brick and stone

The stuff is here-- pretty sure it's the correct product: http://www.prosoco.com/products/sure-klean-weather-seal-natural-stone-treatment I am not a professional but the symptoms of my abive-grade water problem appear completely consistent with saturation leakage . If I have to roll it on I will...

Spraying solvent on a lot of brick and stone

I have a lot of water intrusion and I suspect the brick and stone exterior is the culprit. My research leads me to believe that I am best off traveling a few states away and getting the good stuff (solvent based silane-siloxane breathable water repellent). The problem, then, is how to apply...

    Zoro Deals Thread

That post covers December 2014 through May 2015, and thus isn't useful for predicting this summer and fall. And "once per quarter" is not too helpful either. I found the August 2013 sale through a search. it is true that I could have searched more exhaustively, but your snark seems unwarranted...

    Zoro Deals Thread

When is the next bite of the apple at 30%? Looks like they did it in August 2013. And did a 25% in July 2014? I have a few needs that aren't particularly time-sensitive and every dollar counts.

Teach a man to shop: Plumbing Edition

Thanks everyone for the comments so far. 1. Apollo valves are allegedly made in the USA. 2. The FIP/MIP is good to know. Helps. Thanks. 3. Maybe I was just unlucky at HD? Or maybe everything was picked over because the weather in this part of the country is no longer suicide-inducing. Perhaps...

Teach a man to shop: Plumbing Edition

This really shouldn't be that hard. I have a 1/2 FPT outlet with a broken (hose bibb/sill ****/boiler drain/ garden valve). I want to install an American-made full-port ball valve (you know, a quarter turn thingy) with a bog-standard MGHT outlet on the other side. For less than $30, maybe...

BlackFriday 2014 - Post Stuff Here!

Went to my local store, was disappointed. That desk is awesome. Can you share any more details? Location? Was it a display model or something? I am envious.

Removing broken bolts from trench drain

Heh. That's such an obvious solution I am a bit embarrassed not to have thought of it.

Harder bit it is, pending other recommendations. Got a brand and size recommendation?
