There is a YouTube channel named Matthew Cremona and he (I believe) harvested his logs, milled them, and then made flooring from the wood. It is quite an involved process.
Very nice story, I am sure your friend would be pleased and I'm sure his wife is relieved it went to a home that will hold onto it and treasure it. It sounds like a "Happy Father's Day" is due to you. 8 kids is quite the household!
Did you build your trusses yourself? I'd like to build a 30'x40'x10' sidewall garage and rip off my old one, but construction costs in my area are pretty high. I'm thinking I'll hire out the excavation and leveling of the site, have a slab poured that is 34' or 36' deep and 44'-46' long and...
What prevents it from going out to 30' at the minimum? Is it a land spacing issue? Could you do 30 x 21 (same square footage, but far more standard to layout)? My garage is 21 x 29ish and I can fit my project car in there, have toolboxes at the front, shelving and work benches around the edges...
Can you make it wider? 24' will feel pretty narrow once you start putting stuff in it. I'd do 30' wide if you can swing it financially. That little 8.5' section is only 6" wider than a 2x4 is long.
I too am having garage dreams here in WA State. Its hard weighing the desire to improve my property with the impending increased cost of taxes and whether or not I'm even going to stay long term.
In your case, is there a height limitation? I would not go under 10' if I were to build new for a...
They seem to be a lot like the Proto/Plomb industrial finish. Its quite comfy in your hand. I've been trying to build an all MAC brand SAE set either in this industrial finish or the shiny chrome as I have a metric set from 6mm-24mm in shiny chrome by MAC. Otherwise my whole SAE set is...
I imagine in the US, they're even more obscure/oddball. I don't remember where I bought them, but I'll toss them on eBay for now and see what interest they draw. Gray is a good brand and not one I come across often. Someone may pay more for the Canadian aspect if they're in Canada to use on...
Somewhere over the past several years, I acquired a set of BSF (British Special Fine) wrenches not really paying close enough attention to see that they're no where near SAE in sizing. I only noticed because I am going through excess wrenches to lighten my tool collection.
What would the value...
I would think a scissor lift/jack thing would be safer and better. This looks like you'd need four of them and some wheel chocks to be as safe as it could be. Still doesn't look that safe.
