DYI Garages in the Twin Cities

The only place I ever knew of was called First Gear Garage, down in Eden Prairie. But I was told they closed up about a year or so after opening. It was a good idea, but I imagine the insurance liability killed it. Sorry I can't be of any help, but I just don't know of anything still operating...

When to downsize your tool box

Many years ago when I stopped spinning wrenches professionally I sold my Matco box and replaced it with a 44" HF unit top and bottom. Then filled 2 shelves, and now I have the HF unit, 2 lista cabinets, and a shelf full of tools. Plus my junkyard tool bag, and the toolbox for each individual...

The Hulk is not available. How to safely get 600 pound boiler down stairs?

try calling a piano mover or maybe a place that specializes in moving large safes? this would probably be easy for them. I wouldn't try it myself.

The Lista auction gods smiled upon me last week

Very nice score! I also think you could sell those bushings and recoup most if not all of your money. even if you sold them as a lot for 500, some guy would think he is getting a steal and you made out like a bandit.

Sears.com hot deals and clearance thread

no, its not just you. the cabinets disappeared from the website. I was just about to order a bunch of them when I realized they were not available anymore. Sears probably had a problem with the vendor making the cabinets for them and dropped them.

After a decade of waiting, finally got garage cabinets.

I saw those cabinets on the website, but it won't let me order them. I guess they are being discontinued? Not sure, but its a bummer. They look real nice!

    What to put on walls?

I'm using steel durapanel in white from Menards. It's very easy to put up and is very nice.

Custom Toolbox Foam Organizers-An easier way...

I love the idea. However like others said, I'd need a Room of tools to do it with that much spacing. If you figure out how to put the wrenches on their sides, I'm in. I may still get one for my screwdrivers though.

    Any tire experts?

275-60-15 is a common muscle car size. In order to keep a tire the same height but wider like you want, you are looking at a 325-50-15. Nitto makes a 555 in that size, and Mickey Thompson makes some as well I think. These would be 2" wider. The problem is, you'd be needing a 9-11.5" wide rim for...

Kinda a tool, grandfathers old workbench.

I would do very little to that bench. Like other said, just replace the one small damaged section. I've got 2 old benches from my great grandfather, its impressive how they were built with whatever they had. One of mine has old lap siding as the shelving.

Fram Tough Guards $1.50 at Walmart

You must not have read my post. I did cut them apart and did make my own decision. It was 8 or 9 years ago, but I haven't changed my mind about it. I originally posted "Quote: Originally Posted by moparguy01 View Post many years ago I cut apart a bunch of different types of filters and looked...

Fram Tough Guards $1.50 at Walmart

many years ago I cut apart a bunch of different types of filters and looked at the internals after a fram lunched one of my engines. The build quality difference was staggering. I haven't even used a fram air filter since then, let alone an oil filter.

    Moving on from rattle cans?

The harbor freight purple gun is good for what it is. $10. I have used many of them for painting trailers, rear ends, etc. I did a Bronco with one once. The best part about the $10 guns is the clean up. I've never bothered. I finish the job, let it dry, and toss it in the circular file. They...

    Flouescent / LED Retrofit

I went on a website called DHGATE.com and ordered up some LED replacement bulbs. They were much cheaper. a friend told me about them and they made a HUGE difference in his garage. They are all chinese copies, but they do work. Out of 3 cases he bought, 2 bulbs didn't work, but the price was less...

    Hello from Minnesota

HI guys, I'm Russ from Minneapolis Minnesota. I started working to get my garage up to snuff so I can have a nice place to wrench on my cars. I am currently working on a 74 Dodge Charger, a 78 Chrysler New Yorker, and as soon as I get it home, a 1953 M43 power wagon ambulance. The wife says I...
