The cashier pulled the tag after me, but the 6 piece chisel and punch set was on sale for $12.99.

See in theory since they failed to pull the sales tag, and I presume it rung up higher, they need to sell it at the posted price *and* give you $5 off for their error.

This is their "price accuracy policy" that is displayed on all their price checkers.

This came about due to a California lawsuit with the consumer protection bureau getting involved.

However, it is virtually impossible to get any store to honor it anymore. And I live in California where the lawsuit was originally filled. I've tried asking for managers, but they will only send out the manager on duty, a teenager with 2 months under their belt, not the actual store manager, who hides in an office and cannot be coaxed out by any customer. I've tried contacting customer service, but there is unfortunately no way to get ahold of anyone in Sears USA anymore, and the people from India have never heard of this policy. Such is life shopping at a hollowed out shell of a once great American shopping institution.

Anyhow this is a valid post in hot deals, because you can in theory, with the right manager on duty who has been there a LONG time, get $5 off anything priced wrong in the store. And incorrect pricing is literally everywhere.

If you're "needing" a new deadblow, Sears has the Craftsman 3ib "Powerdrive" deadblow on sale for $21.92 plus $3 back in points. This is definitely a rebadged Nupla and, from my experience, well worth the money.

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-lb...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=8&blockNo=8&blockType=G8

Also, Craftsman Professional 4-Ton Jack Stands are on sale again for $22.99 plus $3 back in points:
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-prof...sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=8&blockNo=8&blockType=G8

My 2 and 3 lb deadblows were delivered today. I like them. Thanks for the heads up! I just wish I'd gotten the 1lb one while I was at it. :lol_hitti

That's just your locality though, it is not nationwide.

Also unique to your location - at the stores I have visited, the name and picture of the store manager is posted by the entrance. If you want to talk with the manager, just ask any cashier and the manager will be right out.

They do use call centers overseas for late night/early morning calls, but it's pretty easy to get the US call centers during business hours. You may be surprised to learn that many of the "Indians" you reference are actually in the US, and US citizens.

Their bottom-tier customer service people all sound Filipino to me (even in the middle of the day), and I managed to trick one into admitting she was in the Philippines.

If you can get your case escalated to higher-tier customer service, then you might be able to get an American. It's been a while since I've done that, so I don't know if it's still true or if they've also been outsourced.

:lol_hitti 150+ useless pieces. How many phillips bits does one need? Who uses the standard screw driver bits in a power tool anyway? :willy_nil And who among us doesn't already have a drawer full of Allen wrenches?

Im with you. I think I have enough bits to last me a lifetime. Now, granted if working off site somewhere, its a cheap set that could save your *** a couple times.

Especially truye if you call Shop Your Way, unless you are a Silver or higher member. When our family purchased a bunch there, you get moved to the front of Customer Service quite quick, and was always talking to an American in Wisconson. I'm not a Silver member anymore, so all of my service calls have started in an Asian country, and some with escalation ended back in the USA.

I do service work. If I needed 1 time to go back to the shop or the local store to get a bit I needed. It was worth the 25.00. And it comes in a organized case. This kit may not be for everyone. I am going to throw one in the back of my truck.

Go to the stores and look around. They're clearing house with clearance and odd ball merch. I picked up the CMan 2 jaw puller for $13 and a random Gearwrench O2 sensor for $5. Not to mention brad nails, wood glue, batteries, and other assorted random items for under $3 each.

no, its not just you. the cabinets disappeared from the website. I was just about to order a bunch of them when I realized they were not available anymore. Sears probably had a problem with the vendor making the cabinets for them and dropped them.

Sears is breaking up into smaller and smaller pieces nowadays. Last year was the last rush, now every time I've come across one of their stores, they carry a deteriorating inventory. Three Sears stores around me pulled the plug, there are very few in existence around me nowadays. A lot has changed in the last 365 days. Could only imagine what they'll putting up this holiday season.

The Phillipsburg NJ tool section floor space is now being reduced 50% and it is a total mess with no customers in the store. Last Thursday I was the only one in the store at 7:30pm and they had one "clueless kid" working the register...... Very sad!

Same thing is happening to a sears here in phx,az. They are reducing a 3 level sears to a single floor. I buy all my sears stuff via sears.com and pick it up anyways because I cannot stand walking through the store anymore. With the ill-experienced employees, lack of price matching* and the sears vacation vultures its just not very pleasant.

*at least at my sears if you pricematch via sears.com you cannot use reward points. So I am often pushed to purchase online/pickup local anyways.

you can use regular accrued points, but not Surprise/Bonus/Freecash/ whatever the f. they are calling them today extra points.

I have had them adjust a price because it was incorrect, and was still able to use my bonus points. So it depends on how they choose to correct the price. If you found a really inept employee, you might be able to get him to PM but use the other option, so you can still use your bonus points.

D*** got $5 of $5 so I thought I am going to get these extensions, but the price is now back up :headscrat

Their "Holiday Blowout" sale just started, and shot up the prices on a lot of things I was looking at. I was actually in store, and mentioned getting another pair of the Craftsman Boots soon. The rep said, come back tomorrow when our sale starts. hmmm, price just went +$15. thanks guy

I didn't have any points, but was going to order the 1/2" universal joint. Already have one, but wanted it for a second location. Mine is USA made. I'll probably be fine with the HF pos, and they will probably be around longer than Sears for warranty purposes

If they choose the 'price match' option, surprise points won't work. Tell them to do an 'override' instead and it will work.

The Sears near me and awfully close to their Headquarters in hoffman estates, il....has converted 25% of their tool space into shelves full of home goods like toliet paper and handsoaps. Like they took left over stock from Kmart and shoved it in there.

Went to exchange a couple rounded off Craftsman screwdrivers.

The open stock pieces have deteriorated into a few odd ball pieces, and they aren't replenishing.

Basically, they are telling me that I have to go to another Sears that has the items to exchange under forever warranty. They used to exchange tools on the spot, and in the rare event they didn't have the item they would mail it to my house for free.

And I'm trying to exchange a #2 Phillips screwdriver and a standard flat head, not really what I would call a specialty item.

Stock is really dwindling, and they seem to just keep shifting stuff around to make the store look full, rather than actually restocking.

Sad days. I guess now is the time to look through your tool chests and exchange any damaged Craftsman. Eventually the forever warranty won't be forever anymore.

I've noticed they don't stock the screwdrivers anymore either.

What they are doing is making them in China now. Even the old red and blue clear handle ones. Very sad. They are waiting for new stock at the stores I've checked, and I actually saw this new stock at one store I checked.

The China drivers don't come with plastic holders for the peg anymore, just a paper barcode around the shaft. So they don't hang up. The store I saw just had them all mixed together in a bin below the area the individual pegs for various cars was.

The drivers still say "WF" on the side however now they have a "Z" letter in place of USA. The colored sections are poorly finished.

Most stores are totally out right now and waiting for their box of new Chinese. However a couple good Sears near me are actually opening up the still USA 24 packs and 14 packs and taking out the ones you need to warranty, and putting the rest of the pack back on the clearance opened merch table. So push your store to do that if they don't have anything.

That said I have 2 Aces near me stocked with all USA that honor the hand tool warranty with a smile, so I'm not personally worried about getting my swaps in this minute.

.........

Is there a thread with photos? Don't see it in General Tool Discussion.

I figured Western Forge was pissed after Stanley bought up the Craftsman brand, and those cheap knockoffs might be the result of Sears forcing WF to keep fulfilling orders.

Wu Tang Forge - Zhao Ping

Still lots of stock on USA clear handle screwdrivers here in Colorado, but in sets. The open stock is dwindling. USA pliers are just about gone; I was in there yesterday, three pairs left, pretty much every style they made replaced with China. Same price though.

I exchanged a 5mm hex socket at Ace Hardware. I was surprised that that carried the single piece and also didn't know if you could exchange there. They said no problem! I didn't look at the screwdrivers but overall they had a much better selection than I expected.

Some good deals on the 6 and 12 inch bar clamps. These are the ones made by Wolfcraft. I think that they are solidly underrated by most people. I have noticed supplies in stores dwindling, so perhaps they are being discontinued. Less than $10 each:

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-12-i...lerId=SEARS&prdNo=20&blockNo=20&blockType=G20

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-6-in...sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=6&blockNo=6&blockType=G6

5 Pack Craftsman Professional jigsaw blades: $3.92 Great filler item if you are trying to meet the shipping minimums.

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-prof...lerId=SEARS&prdNo=48&blockNo=48&blockType=G48

Aluminum sliding box cutters $6.92. These are actually my favorite box cutters:

Craftsman 8 amp Hammer Drill: $39.92

Great deal on the Wolfcraft for Craftsman clamps - but no stock available for shipping, and local stores show out of stock also. Too bad - I have quite a few of these, and would buy more at that price.

I believe that last year around black Friday or Christmas this went down to $30 - I am not 100% though, so I could be wrong here. I thought I saw this set while I happen to visit Sears around that time.

If you do not need it, it may be worth waiting a few weeks just to see how low it will get - I know I am. Of course you can always price match too if it does go lower after you buy them.
