    Starting build, zoning problems, workaround?

I too had a blow dealt to my dreams when a visit to the planning department revealed that in my particular zoning I am limited to 500 sq. ft. and no more than 15' in total height. This was particularly demoralizing as one of the factors when purchasing our home was that I had observed several...

    Welding in patch panels

Just finished reading. Great stuff! Thank you everyone who contributed. My van has a pretty ugly section of "repair" with a bunch of filler. I am hoping to put this knowledge to good use and weld in clean metal when the time comes. Also, I ran across this earlier today and given the subject...

    Re-routing gas pipes

Actually, in talking to my Dad this weekend it turns out that he still has all of my Grand Fathers old pipe threading equipment. Perhaps when I do my air lines I'll get a chance to try it out. BTW... great looking bob in your avatar photo!

    Re-routing gas pipes

Thanks Grinder Bill, You've outlined a lot of the reasons I'm going to hire this one out. The more I look at the whole assembly the less pleased I am and I'd rather have it fixed right the first time. Hopefully a pro will notice things I might miss that ought to be rectified. Best, Mike

    Re-routing gas pipes

Wow. I'm away from my computer over the weekend and come back to find that you've all been busy! First, thank you all for taking the time to reply. Good, bad, and ugly. Second, the more I read about this (here and elsewhere) and the more I look at the goofy collection of pipe in my garage, the...

    Re-routing gas pipes

Thanks for the counter-point Pappa Ugg. I started looking at the CSST lines which is what prompted me to ask advice regarding possible alternatives to black pipe. Keep em comin'.

    Re-routing gas pipes

Wonderful input. Thank you ibedayank. I want my house to be "the bomb", not a bomb... I've been thinking about this too. Kind of frustrating that the original owners (could well have been the builders) did this goofy work.

    Re-routing gas pipes

My girlfriend and I are both pretty tall. ;) Actually I had thought about that. My thought was to remove that section of the "pedestal" so that the W/D would sit on the floor.

    Re-routing gas pipes

Hi, I am about a month into ownership of my first house, and by extension, my first garage. So far I've done nothing but gather ideas and ponder plans. Among the many things that I hope to accomplish this summer are: (in no particular order) Add a couple of electrical outlets. Plumb for air...

RaceDeck in East Bay Area, Ca. ?

Greetings all. I'm still pondering several possible solutions for the floor of my new garage. One that I am very interested in at this point is RaceDeck. I have had some correspondence with Janene and even received a sample tile. It's a little hard to visualize the garage finished out with...

    First time homeowner.

Thanks guys. steven083008, Yes the fact that I can wait to move my tools, toys, etc... in is a huge advantage! I may not get to do everything I'd like to ($$$) before I move my garage contents in, but I should be able to knock out some of the more disruptive projects. NASTYZEN, No worries...

    First time homeowner.

Greetings GJ! I've been lurking for several weeks, reading a lot and gathering ideas. At the end of March I closed on my first home and moved in a few weeks ago. The home is wonderful and needs very little, just a few odds and ends and some minor repairs. I'm really excited to start setting...
