    Angle grinder suggestions

I have 3 from harbor freight and 1 dewalt. The dewalt is the best, but for the $10-20 each, the HF ones flat work. Multiple grinders save A LOT of time when you set them up for different work (flap disc, wire, plastic, standard grinder) and don't have to switch things every time you need...

    Mark's Monster Garage....3800 sq ft

That sounds like a great plan, it's much easier and cheaper to go with a crate motor and be reliable and user/service friendly and then keep the original. Good choice.

    Mark's Monster Garage....3800 sq ft

Hi Mark, I was wondering if you and the owners of the fire truck had considered a 2 part engine deal. Perhaps a rebuild of the original drivetrain (engine/******) for display and a modern powerplant and transmission for daily use. Just a thought, but I'm not sure how feasible it would be. It...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restored 1930's Auto Shop

I have thoroughly enjoyed this thread, however, it would be so much easier to read and follow if: people would STOP QUOTING THE PICTURES! Rant off. Please continue the fine work you have started Thomas. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to one and all...

    Anyone use Eastwoods MIG welders?

I have had my Hobart 140 for 18 months or so. Great machine! Easy to use and handles 1/4" with no problem if you prep grind. Repaired the aluminum deck on my commercial mower as well. Very pleased with mine and I'm sure you made the right choice

    Show us your welding projects

[ WakonTonka: Thanks for the complement!! If necessary I may tie into a nearby sub-frame but for the time being the hitch is more than sufficient. Regardless, thanks for the advise too  Tie into the sub with some side braces and it will be fine

    Topkick fifth wheel hauler project

Le door. But I left a 1/4'' gap all around and I don't like it. I will make another with 3/16'' gap. Just add a strip of 1/8" or smaller and blend it in

    Welding table ?s

1/4" to 3/8" will be plenty tough. My 30x48x1/4" top weighs 110 lbs, then another 150 for the frame, plus tool chests, clamps, plasma cutter, vise, etc Save yourself later headaches and add casters now. It is nice to be able to roll the table out into the drive and grind, saw, hack, hammer, and...

Setting up a garage air compressor

I bought this: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_158284_158284 last year when they had it on sale for $609 w/free shipping (no sales tax either) Runs all my tools and blast cabinet with no problems. Only issue was the OEM plastic filter housing that was mounted directly to the...

    Garage work space arrangement/layout

My drill press, grinder/buffer, blast cabinet, table saw, pancake compressor, and fab table are all on casters. I have 3 tanker desks currently and will construct a rolling chassis to raise one to 35 3/4" for a mobile workstation. It will slide under a fixed workbench/tool storage area (and...

    Mark's Monster Garage....3800 sq ft

"I just spoke with a friend of mine who has the Thermal Dynamics and he is very happy with it. He suggested getting the Cutmaster 52. thanks for the info." The 52 is a much more powerful version that mine (which was discontinued for the 42). 1/2" capacity and 1 1/8" sever for the 52, more...

    Mark's Monster Garage....3800 sq ft

I bought a Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 39 on the interweb for $700 used (retailed for $1100+). Was almost like it was out of the box. Stick with the Big 4: TD, Hypertherm, Lincoln, or Miller Something to consider is a variable input unit (120/240v). They switch current automatically. Nice if...

    My fab table build

You might consider using used motor oil for the top treatment. My table is much more humble than yours (1/4" top), but I wiped it down with a heavy coat of used oil, let it sit for a few minutes, then wiped off. Took several rags but it will not rust with regular use and cleans up quickly. Plus...
