Using a torch without causing a fire?

Little fire just keeps the heart healthy.... I usually torch something hot, then cold shock it by immediately spraying the hot surface (once torch removed) with the penetrating oil. Makes a smokey steamy mess. Have pretty good luck with this. You'll get a bit of fire, but not nearly if you...

    Ice Machine in your shop?

Hmm, that's a lot of ice. The big yeti coolers everyone has, hold 78lbs of ice. (that's with no food/drink in them, just ice). Sidenote, amazing yeti does make a "simply massive bigger cooler, unsure if this is marketing or not. A Tundra 305, which is 63" long, 24" wide, and 24" tall. They say...

So where's everyone buying their wire these days? NM-B/Romex specifically..

From what I understand this was just added to the NEC books for '23, 210.08. Prior 10amp was not an approved breaker size by NEC code. I wouldn't be surprised if we see 16ga romex come soon. LED lighting just makes it tough to not expect 16ga at this point. Curious if 10amp breakers would also...

    MrCool excess line set

Vertical coils make a sweet oil trap. Horizontal coils only. As stated I don't think you're far off with your coil below the mount w/ zip strips. Sarcastic me thinks, why not just lower the wall mount to ground level and that will burn up a good chunk of the coil.

    Electrolysis rust removal gone wrong

Interesting idea on the turret. Hopefully my few days of soak in salt water did not do the same vs the 140 years. Coating and sealing the cast iron in seasoning (plasticized oil) should hopefully stop any lingering sodium from causing issue. But if it doesn't. Well. Im out about a hundo but...

    Electrolysis rust removal gone wrong

Right, update.... Dumped my black water mess of water and salt. Unfortunately my brain went, salt water will kill the grass and anything it touches, so I dumped it in the gravel driveway. Now it looks like BP had their next major oil spill. Turns out that black oxide and iron stains clear...

Am I using these shackles correctly to support my engine?

Looks like this question is arising out of the fact you might only have those short lengths of small chain to do this. Not sure what job you're doing, but I see a load bar, vs a hoist, so I assume you're just supporting the engine. Looking at it, I wouldn't be worried about the shackle, more...

    Need another rollaway. Which brand?

In the lower 48 states, I'd keep my eye out on FB Marketplace. US General / Icon (Harbor Freight) in those larger box sizes I've had great luck with. The tool carts and other small boxes are meh quality, but I've had a 42" US General for ~10 years now and really like it. I just bought a 54" US...

    Electrolysis rust removal gone wrong

Stellar post @Beerhippie. Never heard of the conversion trick. I stole the wife's baking soda from our fridge and slapped it in the oven. I figured electrolyte was electrolyte, hence the salt. I'll report back after I dump my tub and refill it with water and my fresh baked baking soda.

Do we really NEED so many different plier-based cutters?

These milwaukee parrot style head cable cutters are my new favorite. Cutting 12-3 romex with them is so much easier on your arms. Plus they can pretty nicely cut hose and many other things. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-10-in-Cable-Cutting-Pliers-48-22-6104/207103143

    3M Cubitron II Grinding Wheels

I concur, 3M rep showed up at our door in my previous career and handed us several. He was trying to compete with our religious use of Klingspor abrasives. Unfortunately, the price just didn't add up for us.

    Electrolysis rust removal gone wrong

It's all I had laying around. Tank is outside, so chlorine production isn't a worry for me. @RTM, yes you are correct. Electricity flows, counter intuitively, from Negative to Positive. So as I understand it, you want electron flow away from your part I can see what you're saying with it looks...

    Electrolysis rust removal gone wrong

Hey all, Cast Iron pans are kitchen tools, right? L'est that's the way I chose this place to post..... :) I know plenty of people have used electrolysis to remove rust from anything, and it does work great. Unless you don't read really far into the process and some of the bumps in the road...
