    LG Mini Splits

I installed an LG 18,000 BTU minisplit heat pump a couple years ago in my shop. I dont use it regularly but when i do it has worked fine.

    New here, A/C opinions please

I am in central texas too. I installed a 1.5 ton heat pump minisplit in my 25X30 shop last year. It is pretty well insulated. But it is probably a little undersized. On a 95F day, i only get down to about 80F (and dry). Which feels quite nice actually so overall i am happy with it. dean

    Where to buy trusses?

I got mine at McCoys. They can engineer them for you depending on what you want. Worked out great. Tip: make sure you get enough trusses to insure they are on 18 inch or 24 inch spacing if you are planning drywall or insulation. They don't normally seem to design for one more truss than is...

    Concrete in East Austin

I think it depends on what you want. I put in a 37 X 42 foot slab for $11K which is ~$7/sq foot. Kind of expensive but it was full perimeter footing with beams every 10' and a LOT of rebar (5/8" rebar in the beams and half inch in the slab itself). The slab is 6" with a 6" curb around the...

    Slab on grade with 'curb'

The way my outbuilding was formed (a 6 inch curb) was to cantilever the inner form by suspending it from the top. I dont see why this couldnt be done with a 12 inch curb but the additional head pressure from the concrete might make it difficult to restrain the bottom of the inner form from...

    Slab and truss question

Here in central texas we dont worry too much about freezing. Despite that,I went with perimeter beam that was 2 foot by 1 foot wide reinforced with 5/8 rebar. Also similar beams crossed in both directions meeting in the center (25X30 slab) and the slab itself had 1/2" rebar on one foot spacing...

A few questions on new propane plumbing

I can tell you that in my case, there is soft copper from the tank to the regulator. Black pipe from the regulator outlet. I think there are code requirements that any gas appliance be at least 18 inches off the floor in a garage. Not sure how that affects the location of the gas connection.

    Pressure test minisplit ductless system

I know you have to pressure test a ductless system on install using dry nitrogen. Thing is, I have a cylinder of MIG shielding gas (Ar/CO2 mix) and was wondering if anybody used it instead of bottled nitrogen. Compressed cylinder gas spec sheets suggest that bottled N2, Ar, and CO2 all have...
