    vapour barrier or not?

This is a complicated issue and depends on the climate and if moisture is generated inside, or if the outiside has more moisture than inside. As I understand it, moisture will tend to migrate from the wet to the dry side of a wall. That tells me a cold climate will have dryer outside air than...

    AC Solutions for the future?

I bought a split/ductless system from www.acwholesalers.com for $1,325 including shipping, 50' refrigerant lines set, and weather proof 220v wiring for the compressor. Delivery was included in price, and was dropped in 3 days by a lift gate truck and dolly. This was an 18,000 BTU heatpump unit...

    best sealant. not epoxy

I gave up on the Euco Diamond Hard as well. If it will not seal out oil, etc. then I may as well leave the floor as it is. Every few months, I can clean any oil drips with a bit of degreaser and then mop it up. The really good solutions are too expensive, and the cheaper stuff either degrades or...

One 8' or two 4' bulbs better

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find it. In the garage, I have a choice of using T8 fixtures with four 4' lamps, or two 8' lamps. Is there any significant difference in light output? It does look like the 4' lamps are easier to handle. Might be able to get them home...

Cat5 Roughed in How do I finish it?

When adding ar phone/dsl cat5 run to another room is there any concern about existing phone outlets degrading the phone or dsl signal. The house already has lines to 3 rooms, but I need a 4 line for converting a useless formal living room into an office. Also can I use a punch down panel in the...

What is wrong with plain concrete?

I'm also planning on using Euco, and would like to hear about any comparison with Ashford. For either product, does it increase light reflection? Plain concrete seems to just soak up light, and I'm hoping that a lightly buffed Euco will improve on that. BTW, I was in Home Depot yesterday and...

    best sealant. not epoxy

To benjamming: "Push brooms were used to move around the densifier. You will remove the extra liquid or will have to grind it away if left to harden." How did you remove the extra liquid? Did you mop up any extra, or just carefully applied only what the concrete would soak up? I can't see...

Waxing a smooth power trowled concrete floor

I've used a similar waxing sealer on a stained concrete interior home floor. It did markup easily when a chair or anything was dragged across it. Very visible on that floor because it was a dark stain. Regular rewaxing might restore it OK. Pretty slick when wet as I remember.

    best sealant. not epoxy

Walter, I plan on doing the 450 sq' floor about 1st of Aug. House is not really ours yet. Closing is 7/31. The concrete looks pretty good for 8 years old. Smooth, no cracks or joints, and very little under-car staining. I'm thinking about doing a 2 pass application to see if that will give a...

    best sealant. not epoxy

I'm leaning toward the Euclid Diamond Hard product that Walter is posting about. Looks like a low cost product that will improve a garage floor. I talked to a local (Dallas) company rep and he said the floor does need to be clean before application, and any that's not absorbed has to be wiped...

advice on insulating my Garage door.

Think I'm going with a kit from this company which is not far from me. The kit with white vinyl on one side would help light the place. http://www.texasgarages.com/insulation.htm

    Who has used GarageFlooring.com

I made contact with their local rep and he seems to know what he's doing. Made all the right statements about floor prep, priming, flakes, etc. The "over the phone" estimate was $1,100 (450 sq '), and they have a higher priced finishe. Has anyone here had any experience with them.

    Flakes as non-skid

Having read through a few threads about flakes and non-skid, I still have a question or two about a straight epoxy covering. When a shop is completely empty with a freshly painted floor I can see how any uneven concrete or paint might be very visible. This makes a flaked floor look pretty good...

    Insulating and wiring finished walls.

A 440 sq' garage with finished walls, but don't know if they are insulated. The front wall joins the house so it probably is. I can cut a small hole to check for insulation on side walls, but I'm assuming there's none. Also need to do quite a bit of wiring for lights, outlets, split AC, etc...
