I've actually done something similar using "quick steel" if you know what that is, it works, but I need to connect a cable to it and a screw to hold it in place, so I think that wouldn't work as good in this situation.

Oh nice! I also just bumped on "rigid coupling", which one would you think be better? the rigid coupling seems to be longer, so I can connect a cable at the other end, which seems to fit more what I need like this...
