    House circuit list

How do they create surges? When they're shut off and stop drawing current? Regardless, the voltage waveform always originates at the utility transformer or line and must pass through the service entrance panel before being distributed to the loads in the home. Maybe I'm thinking of it...

How many circuits leaving one panel knockout?

The black and white are counted as "current carrying" so you can have any combination of them up to 9 wires and only need to derate by 70% from the 90C rating of THHN. For #12AWG THHN you end up with 30A x 0.7 = 21A which must be protected at 20A anyway. 4 single phase circuits with individual...

    TIG Welder Wiring Question

I do see the intent of the plug or cord connector to keep people from opening potentially energized boxes to disconnect wires on a portable or serviceable piece of equipment, but I don't know how critical it really is. Someone mentioned that the disconnect lugs weren't rated for the fine...

    TIG Welder Wiring Question

Technically not if it's connected to an appliance or equipment that can be moved. It just came up recently. FWIW "400.7 Uses Permitted (A) Uses. Flexible cords and cables shall be used only for the following: (1) Pendants (2) Wiring of luminaires (3) Connection of portable luminaires, portable...

    TIG Welder Wiring Question

Ampacity is calculated using a multiplier from the table based on duty cycle. So 95A@40% duty is 95A x 0.69 = 66A effective #4CU is good for 70/85A in the 60/75C columns depending on the installation. #4SO cord is good for 70A as well. Overcurrent protection is allowed up to 200% of rated...

    EMT or Plastic Conduit?

I think you've got consensus so I'm not going to dogpile. I've got a single unpainted PVC conduit to a pvc single gang box/switch in the basement bathroom from the PO and I feel disappointed every time I see it.

want to wire my 1 car garage HELP!

Haha. Yeah I thought of that, though I've never actually seen someone using a ground resistance tester to avoid driving another rod. Personally I prefer using building steel, concrete encased rebar, and a ground ring.:eyecrazy:

How many circuits leaving one panel knockout?

Up to 9 current carrying conductors (4 single phase circuits + 1 wire) whenever they are run together for at least 2 feet before 90C insulation temperature derating starts to matter.

want to wire my 1 car garage HELP!

Right. Space them at least 6 feet apart and drive them below grade. Maybe PatJ800 was thinking of the exception when the building is only served by a single branch circuit.

    Dedicated line or sub panel?

Sounds like the garage is attached. A detached building will have different requirements. How long do you plan on owning the space? How much and what kind of work do you plan on doing in the garage over the next couple years? What electrical tools/equipment could you see yourself buying/using...

Township limits to DIY electrical work?

Good feedback. I have contact info now, just have to wait out the holiday. I would prefer to have the important parts inspected and legit. Really seems to come down to the people in charge (doesn't it always). Yeah, I was just being tongue in cheek to get a rise outta the electrical guys. I...

want to wire my 1 car garage HELP!

I know the feeling. Is there a nameplate or schematic on the door/cover of the panel? Ask your electrician friends about moving ckts #2,#4 to the bottom of the panel and using that space for a 60A, 2 pole breaker. Tell them you just want to KISS... and that you don't have any money:p

New 7.5 hp Compressor. What breaker and wire size??

Re: Got air!!!! Haha, No I'm just an engineer, not an electrician. I'm licensed to understand how it works, just not to work the magic to make it reality.
