    Melding of two compressors

I have two compressors with issues that were free and I'd like to combine them into one functional unit. One is an older (vintage) Craftsman twin cylinder unit that works great but has a pinhole leak in the horizontal tank. The pin hole leak condemns the tank, IMO The other is a much more...

Old art deco lamp parts supplier

I did contact them, and they were very helpful. Unfortunately since it's a 55 yr old lamp, and probably produced in limited quantities, the parts just don't exist unless you find a "parts lamp" on ebay or something.

Old art deco lamp parts supplier

Here's what the entire swivel joint looks like. Some good ideas posted. No exact matches but probably the best I'll get on a 50+ year old lamp.

Old art deco lamp parts supplier

I've got an old art deco lamp from the 50s or 60s that recently broke. Looking for a replacement part for what appears to be a hollow threaded knuckle. It's what holds the orb/bulb onto the lamp stand. See attached. Thanks, John

    Repair damaged extension cords?

    Thanks, I reckon that's what I'll do. Hadn't considered liquid rubber.

    Repair damaged extension cords?

I have some pretty nice, long extension cords that have been damaged. Is it possible to safely repair these? I was thinking if I soldered the wires and used a couple good heat shrink wraps, I should be good. But then I wondered if I was a stupid, cheap ******* in need of a good shock...

    Trane vs Lennox heat pumps

I just got a quote from a Carrier guy yesterday and he was touting copper coils. He said everyone followed Trane to Aluminum some years ago and then went back to copper, even though it's more expensive. (Shrug) I dunno. That's why I'm here.

    Trane vs Lennox heat pumps

My understanding is that if you have a leak with one of the aluminum coils it's junk, whereas you can solder/braze a copper coil. Also heard that the aluminum coils have to be joined to the copper feed by some sort of weird epoxy joint. Reason that the Trane aluminum coil leaks any less up...

    Trane vs Lennox heat pumps

Yeah, heat strips in my case. But for all the time that it's cold enough for a heat pump, but not too cold, it's way more efficient. Seeing as I'm in Austin, TX, heat pumps make sense. I have no gas in my area, so it's all electric for me. Pure heat strips is $$$. I've had $500+ heating...

    Trane vs Lennox heat pumps

OK so it turns out that all Trane and American Standards are using all aluminum coils whereas carrier/Bryant and others tried it and went back to the more expensive copper. Also Trane uses a bottle brush style coil fin whereas Carrier and others use the conventional fins that can be combed back...

    Trane vs Lennox heat pumps

Trane vs Lennox heat pumps (vs Carrier) Need a new 4-ton unit as my ~25 yr old Carrier is about done. Looking at mid level units (not builder level or uber expensive signatuire series). Who's da best? Thanks! (Mods, I have the same post in the heating and AC section, but think I may get...

    Cheap alternative for drilling/tapping fluid?

I believe this. Just need to quench the heat away to preserve the drill/cutter tips. ...but it would be a mess because you would need to maintain flow. Thanks to all for the responses.

    Cheap alternative for drilling/tapping fluid?

Last one in my hood closed about 6 months ago. HD and lowes are all that's left. Anyway, I have all sorts of oil, from SAE 40 for the mower, to royal purple 20-50 for the race car to childs and alberts assembly oil for shortblock assembly. I would probably start with the cheapo mower oil...
