    Moving a shed

My Dad moved our 12x18 garage 20 feet. He nailed 2x6s around the bottom of the inside of the walls to stiffen it up and put a 4x8 plank across the inside of the back to push against. He drove the jeep into the garage and pushed it the twenty feet. I can't remember any rollers, but he might have...

    Handling a large drill

I have a HUGE drill motor with a 3/4 inch chuck that was given to me because the guy had been thrown off a ladder, broke an arm and never wanted to be tempted using it again. I don't do ladders.

Monolithic slab preparation a DIY job?

I'm the kind of guy that insists on doing everything myself, no exceptions! I made an exception in this case and will be forever thankful I did. After watching my contractor and his six helpers work for three plus days dig it out. fill it with gravelly stuff, compact the hell out of it, place...

    Turkey baster but solvent resistant

AND... My wife thought I was the only one. I just about choked when I read it.

2nd story or loft in steel building solutions?

Mine is 36' x 48'. The uprights are 12' apart and the eaves are 14' tall. Kept a 9 foot underneath. 2"x10" floor joists. I-beam with trolley and cheapie winch.

    Another what is it

Looks like a tool for some sort of power tool. The prefix 84 is the "division" number for Montgomery Wards tools. The 8456 would be towards the end of the tool grouping and might be an indication of the type of tool. Don't know anymore, too many years ago. Norm

Insulating a pole barn for a/c

I have a 36' x 48' x 14' side walls steel framed with 6" purlins on edge. When it was built they installed a 2" blanket. Since then I've added 6" fiberglass bats to the walls and finished it with CDX. I will add 6" bats to the ceiling in the coming year. I have a two ton airconditioner and when...

    Show me your ANVIL

Found this anvil at a swap meet. It's a Hay Budden. I originally thought the base had been broken off, but I have since seen pictures of two others complete with holes. Both had makeshift stands. Paid $90. Excellent rebound and rings like a bell.

Tool Cases - Throw them away? What else?

I don't know why I didn't throw away the case my Craftsman tool set came in 15 years ago, but when the thieves broke into my shop and stole all my sockets, I used the case to prove what was stolen. Norm

Show your Unistrut / Superstrut designs

I was at a swap meet a while back and bought what looks like aluminum Unistrut. I got eight sticks for $50. I didn't know what I was going to use it for at the time, but when I was making the bunk for my Sprinter van I found that the slat bed frame from Ikea would fit perfectly. Norm

Bench top - solid core door vs. 2x4s on edge?

I had one bench made from 3x12s. Old used stuff, but it worked great. My last wooden bench used 4x3 legs and framed with 2x6s. Made the top from what I was told was "stair tread" material. It was about 11/4 thick plywood faced with MDF. The frame was bolted together with 3/8 bolts and the top...

    Craftsman Sockets

My issue is trying to keep them from insisting I except current Craftsman china stuff for 10 - 20 year old USA made Craftsman. I want something I can depend on.

    Craftsman Sockets

My shop was broken into a couple of weeks ago and they got a lot of "stuff" and I'm working with the insurance company. Most of the stuff is straight forward, but my problem is with the socket sets. I had them all stored away on their organizing trays. (It made it easy to load them up). One set...

    work bench top

I think I'd rub it down with "metal prep". I'd do it with a thick coarse Scotchbright pad. I do this on the bare old sheet metal car parts after I clean the rust off. I've had some parts in my shop for more than two years with no rust. Norm

You think this could be useful? Heavy steel table

A while back I was at an auction and a 4x8 table with a 3/4 inch top came up for bid, I bought it for $250. Not sure I'd ever need anything heavier. Norm
