Found this anvil at a swap meet. It's a Hay Budden. I originally thought the base had been broken off, but I have since seen pictures of two others complete with holes. Both had makeshift stands. Paid $90. Excellent rebound and rings like a bell.
So don't leave us in suspense. What's the story on this? I assume it's not yours. (Yet?)Here are some pictures of a bizarre anvil / swage![]()

Actually I did, heading for the garage. I spotted it just as I was getting ready to pay for the other stuff I'd found.
Just picked this up today at a moving/Estate sale:

Got it for $20!
44 Lb Peter Wright! Good rebound, and not too beat!

This one may motivate me to setup the new, larger, E-tank! I'm thinking BLO after the rust is gone...
Yeah, AIA is such a great read ... enjoy! And don't be surprised if you can't put it down![]()
Scored this anvil for $50 the other day. It's HEAVY. I can't seem to find any markings on it but I also haven't cleaned it up yet. It appears old but should there be markings on it no matter what?

I haven't cleaned it up yet. What's the best way to do so without killing it? Any specific place I should be looking for markings? This is my first anvil.
I am used to them being on the other side of the anvil, "horn to the right"
But some have markings on front and back. Start with a set of picture of all sides
then go from there. Some nice close ups would be cool.. if we cant make out any markings from that there are a few tricks members have posted.
LR, is there anything in AIA on an Anvil Co. called or marked Mc's? It has a bell shape integrated in the logo.
Probably not old. Guessing in business as recently as 30-40 years ago if not still in business. I just can't find anything on this anvil.
