    stairway to heaven or not?

I tried the ladder idea and hated it. I have stairs to my storage loft now, and believe it's the only way to go unless you are super tight on floor space. Accessing what you have up there will be a huge PITA even with an attic style ladder. Also depending on what you will be storing up there and...

Repainting a Repurposed "Toolbox" or other "Unsandable" surface

Re: Repainting a Repurposed "Toolbox" or other "Unsandable" surface Don't need to prime if the original paint is as good as the open says. If any bare metal is showing, spot prime. Sent from my AT100 using Tapatalk 4

Repainting a Repurposed "Toolbox" or other "Unsandable" surface

Re: Repainting a Repurposed "Toolbox" or other "Unsandable" surface Etching primer may work, but is an extra expense. I bet even with a texture, you could scuff the paint with some gray scotchbrite, then wipe down with wax/grease remover and shoot your color. Sent from my AT100 using Tapatalk 4

    Big Block Chevy Air Compressor

I've seen a few antique motorcycle engines ( 1900's to 1920's) used as compressors, spun with an electric motor. One was a 1912 Indian twin. Sent from my AT100 using Tapatalk 2

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT The 12-Gauge Garage

Re: Lista Cabinets come to the 12-Gauge Garage -- and I've got questions FYI, if you do a Google images search for "Lista logo" you'll see some that show the S in LISTA being larger than the other letters, which is exactly how it looks on that label.

    The Mobil Pegasus

A few years ago I lucked into an early Mobilgas sign... have it hanging on the wall in my shop, its actually made of plywood and has both sides painted and silk-screened.

    New shop, almost done

Thanks, the signs are genuine. The Mobilgas is of 1933-34 vintage and is painted/silk-screened plywood. I was told that this sign was only used in the Western states for those two years. It is double sided with the same graphics on the other side. I bought it from a collector who found it...

    cracks forming in drywall

Humidity isn't a problem here, but cold certainly is this time of year. I am in Eastern WA state, and yes it is below freezing and has been for well over a week straight now. Sounds like all of what you guys suggest came together as "the perfect storm" against my drywall mud! DOH!

    cracks forming in drywall

Update: I was up in the attic yesterday to blow in the insulation and guess what.. I could see LIGHT through the biggest cracks! GULP! I guess no easy fix now, other than to grind away the seam and put in new tape, re-mud, sand and paint . I can hardly imagine that I had painted it too soon...

    cracks forming in drywall

The cracks have increased between last week and now, without having been heated in the mean time.... I did some chipping away at one of the seams with a knife to make sure that it was taped, and not just mudded... yep, theres tape. Also scraped away just the paint to see if the mud was...

    cracks forming in drywall

A different outfit hung the drywall, and was just screwed, not glued. I know the mud guy used paper tape, and did some extra mudding because I didn't want to go with texture on the walls. I honestly don't remember how long it was before I started painting after he was done sanding... but I'm...

    cracks forming in drywall

Hello all.... looking for an opinion on a problem that has cropped up in my new shop. I've had drywall up and mudded/painted since about August, and about 3 weeks ago I noticed that some of the seams in the ceiling drywall were starting to show. Now, they show BADLY and there is even one huge...

VCT - Polish, sealer, or both?

Hello, I am new to garagejournal and I must say, there are a lot of great ideas and nice shops being shown off here! I have a new shop building that is nearing completion, and I'm considering the use of Armstrong VCT tile for part of it. I see that the manufacturer suggests it be waxed, but it...
