I have a work bench frame made out of 3" angle iron, and i was wondering what type of wood would be best for the top, just 3/4" plywood?

Hey i just bought a Big Maxx Mr Heater and after i got it home and pulled out the instructions i found out that i must have 8' between the bottom of the unit and the floor. The problem is, my ceiling height is only 8'! It seems like the code here in Ontario is 8'..... am i screwed??!!
