Dilemma: Need engineered plans just to get price quotes

Have you contacted the company that you got your plans from, I would guess they have a bill of materials to go along with their plans and an engineer on staff.

    New Attached garage

With a high ceiling I would go with the eight foot door. My house garage is 26 X 36 deep and isn't deep enough to put two full size cars end to end. My ceiling is about 11 1/2 feet high. Too small of a door just doesn't look right on a large garage or house. J MO

    Non expanding gap filler

Backer rod comes in a lot of different sizes. I have found it in with the stuff to fill cracks for winter and with the concrete stuff in larger sizees in two different parts of a store.

I always had good luck with Sears openers, I believe Chamberlin makes them.

Where do you get your steel from.

Thanks for all the good ideas. I worked in one of the NW Indiana steel mills for 40 years and now that I am retired it like being in the ocean with no water to drink. lol Our shop had racks full of steel, funny thing is they bought it from outside vendors.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

My wife wanted a striper for her Ferris mower. Her old TORO has one so I fabricated one that pulls behind the rear wheels. It is made out of a piece of 4 inch PVC and filled with concrete. It should lay down some really good stripes.

Where do you get your steel from.

I have been retired for over 4 years now and I used to have access to steel to make projects for home. Now I get frustrated going to the hardware stores and not finding what I need. Where do you get your metal from?

    The $10k 30x40 Pole Barn!

I built a 32 X 40 X 10 years ago and installed a 16 foot roll up door in the 30 foot end. It isn't really deep enough for two full size cars end to end. I wish I would have went 44 foot deep minimum. 89 Town Car and my Dodge Dakota end to end is a tight fit.

Concrete pure white when dry. Is there a fix?

My wife wanted a white garage floor and it isn't. She still talks about the white garage floor she wanted and didn't get.

    Dishwasher air gap question

My wife never used the garbage disposal and the dishwasher is attached to it and our dishwasher started overflowing suds onto the kitchen floor. I changed the garbage disposal and found old dishwashers detergent collected around the inlet of the garbage disposal choking off the opening. The...

Anyone ever have the power company evaluation?

Power plants are really inefficient, they always have to generate more than is needed because the excess can't be stored. I have read that in the future with electric cars plugged in that the power will be reversed and fed back into the grid at times when demand is high.

Gable end overhang attachment that won't sag

I bolted my one foot ladders to the truss, no problem. I was an experienced laborer and inexperienced builder back then but they never sagged.

What mistakes have you made in your build?

You tend to build for where you are in your life at the time. I built my back garage 32 X 40 I never planned on owning eight cars. Garage is too small.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I bought a new 2016 Prius a couple weeks ago and removed the tires and put mud flaps on. Purist Prius owners don't install them because they say it hurts your gas mileage. I had trouble finding the right ones, my Toyota dealer couldn't get them. Kind of strange for a two year old car. I traded...
