Things to Make Workshop More Enjoyable

Yes, there are numerous options. While I have over a thousand CDs and that many LPs, I like when someone else is making the selections in the chosen genre.

Things to Make Workshop More Enjoyable

I have Sirius/XM satellite radio in my car. If you have that subscription, you get free access via your phone or internet as well. So, I run the Sirius/XM through my vintage stereo (1974 Kenwood receiver (made in Chicago!) and Klipsch Heresy speakers) via a Bluetooth receiver connected to the...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Thanks. It just seemed appropriate for this woodworking vise.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Some more of my vises: Parker 474A: Double swivel, 4” jaws. Came from the tool room of a local factory. Beautiful original condition. Probably could be mounted better for maximum versatility, but that is the spot I had when it was acquired. W.C. Toles No. 60 quick action woodworking vise...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Thanks Smitty. I was wondering whether the relative lack of branding meant that this might be an early model. All of the catalogs I have seen, even the 1896 one posted above by akasrick, show more cast-in branding.

I think I will clean it up and try to repair the upper crack. I have a large hobby shop and like the idea of being able to roll a stable vice around to wherever I am working.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Along with the Prentiss vise I acquired yesterday (see post above), came a Western Tool & Mfg. cart. It has seen some heavy use and has a repair to the cracked bottom cast shelf and needs a repair to the cracked upper cast shelf. However, this thing appears to be enormously useful. When the...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Can anyone help me date this Prentiss vise? After some clean-up, it appears to be a still pretty nice Model 19 ½ (4” swivel jaw) with cast jaws. Other than the cast name on the top, it does not appear to have any other factory markings. Thanks much.

Morton Building - Paint Poles or Not?

I have recently purchased a Morton building built in the late 1970s. The support poles are 5.5"x5.5" dark wood on 6' centers. Much of the walls between the poles are covered in plywood or OSB (over an original layer of insulation). The walls are dingy and I am preparing to paint them white to...

    Basement Shop Lighting

Thank you for your information. It is much appreciated. Perhaps I gave either too much or not enough information in my original post. This is in my boiler room (I like working in there because it is warm in the winter and cool in the summer). I have two boilers, a four zone heating system and...

    Basement Shop Lighting

Hello, this is my first post. I would like to install fluorescent lighting in my basement workshop. My ceiling height is only about 8'. I have a number of conveniently spaced electrical boxes on the ceiling that have incandescent sockets mounted. I can remove the sockets and replace those...
