    First Welding Project

Good job, we all had to start somewhere. For brackets and items that are made to hold a load, just make sure you have good penetration. For small welders (110 Volt) I like using the flux cored wire to get just a tad bit more penetration than solid wire and gas. Flux core also performs well under...

bolt hole repair on engine block

Next time providing you have, or can borrow the equipment, I would give the Mig weld removal technique provided by JamieK a try. I have had excellent results with this method as long as the bolt broke off flush, or a little above the surface. If you break a bolt off below the surface try to get...

Anyone have experience with Lab-Metal or equivilent?

A flap disc on a 4.5" grinder will get them welds about as smooth as you would want providing you can get at them. I have heard of Lab Metal but have no experience with it..........good luck

    "Holes" in welds

BMWpower, Looks like the guys provided you with a lot of usefull information. The only thing I can add that appears to be overlooked but may not be a factor, make sure that if the welder was set up for gas prior to yourself using flux cored wire, that you reversed the polarity on the machine...

    Old generator heads

Billy, You might want to give Bill's Welder Repair a try. I think they are in Oklahoma. They are really fine people to deal with. I visit several welding related sites and have never heard a bad thing about this place. They have been in business a long time and can probably answer any question...

    Spool Gun 10' or 20'?

I use a spool gun on my MM210 quite often, and I can't recall a time where the 10 or 12 feet I have could not handle the job. I work in a maintenance department and our electrical genius told me at one time when I had my equipment over at his residence fabricating and welding his trailer, that...

    Aluminum wire

I agree with Charles. Also I see where you want to run it to a new 100 amp panel. For certain you are going to want to meet the ampacity rating for the new panel. Just curious as to what equipment you may have running at the same time. I am sure he recommended aluminum because of the difference...
