    OSB Ceiling - Installation Question

Hi all - do I need to leave 1/8 inch gap between sheets to account for expansion? If so, can I just caulk those before I paint? This will be 7/16 OSB FYI thanks

Detached Garage Ceiling - Plywood Install

Perhaps a stupid question but this is my first garage project. Want to put in a plywood ceiling - we have 24 OC joists. For the **** joints, do I need to have the ends of each fall in the center of the joist? We have 2x6 joists. In other words - I need to cut each 4x8 so that they end at the...

Keeping Heat out of Detached Garage

I have a detached garage (no attic) that is not heated/cooled and I want to keep it cooler in the summer. I was planning on installing R19 in between the joists and then covering the ceiling in plywood. Would installing radiant barrier between the joists instead be a decent solution? It would...

Insulating Garage Ceiling - Joists Unevenly Spaced

Thanks for the advice guys. I hadn’t thought about blown insulation - would that make sense even though I still haven’t closed up the ceiling with plywood? FYI I’m only working with about 300 sq foot of ceiling. Would blown be more cost-effective than R19 batts?

Insulating Garage Ceiling - Joists Unevenly Spaced

thanks! So - since R19 is 6.25 inches, and R13 is 3.5 inches, should I just go with R13 given that my clearance is only 5.5 inches? I won't be heating/cooling this garage but I'm hoping to insulate the ceiling so that it doesn't get crazy hot in the DC summer.

Insulating Garage Ceiling - Joists Unevenly Spaced

Hi all - we've got a very old detached garage and plan to insulate the ceiling and then cover with plywood. I'm planning to buy batt insulation in 23inch widths/6.25 thick but I measured my joists today and most are 24 OC but in some instances they are 23 or 22. Also, the joists are only 5.5...

Slightly uneven floors - underlayment before installing tiles?

Hi all - first post here. We are planning to install tiles (racedeck?) in our 2 car garage. The slab is old and has some cracks/uneven surfaces. Nothing terrible but enough that it would make epoxy difficult..hence our decision with the tiles. Would putting down underlayment help ensure the...
