best way to clean electrical contacts?

I have used Caig's deoxit as well with good results. I also keep one of those old typewriter erasers, the one with the brush on the end. You can sharpen the eraser to a point and get to tight spots.

    Urinal in the shop?

I think a modification to the funnel idea is in order. Dig a hole about the size of a 5 gal bucket, add about 8" of gravel, run the pvc pipe into the hole, add another 6" of gravel, finish filling the hole with dirt and the grass divet you dug up. Now remember at the end of the day dump the...

    OSB vs Sheetrock

I agree with bzinskiy. its a shop not a nitting parlor. nothing worse than a sissified overgrown living room you park a car in. A shop is where real men do real work, get dirt and smell like and old oil change. No doyies on my tool box, thank you. By the way I used metal siding to skin the...

Metal cutting saws -- too many options...

I have a HF band saw I bought 20 years ago. The saw works great. The stand was ****, so I made my own. I have wanted to fab a chip pan and set up an auto lube system. One nice thing is that the band saw can be set up vertically and used with an auxiliary table making it a good tool for cutting...

    Need a new welding helmet

I have a hobart I love, it has battery and solar charge. It also has auto grind which allows you to grind without it going dark. It accepts cheater lens. Got mine from Northern tool around $100. By the way the best money I spent on a welding helmet was the cheater lens I put in it. Have fun

How can some of you guys tolerate a cluttered shop?

My shop goes through times when its clean but mostly its full of works in progress. On occasion we have what we call the great American tool hunt. All tools are rounded up and put away. usually this is triggered when I can't find a single phillips screwdriver or channel lock, knowing I have...

Where should I put the building? Survey inside

Another thing to consider are the utilities, namely sewer/septic and water. If you will be on a private well and septic make sure you have the perc done and drain field layout approved by the local health department. The health dept. will locate the drain field and expansion area. The well...

Lowes Slip Plier Trade in on Vise Grip Free!

2 or 4-Post Lifts - Who? What? Pros & Cons?

I have a 2 post snapon asymmetric made by wheelabrator. It is totally hydraulic with a top cross member that goes up and down with the lift. This cross member is rated to lift 1000#. Its handy for loading engines and such in and out of the truck. With that said being an old fat guy, getting...

    Push Button Air Coupler

I bought the HF push button coupler as well and like you said it lasted a week. I then bough a Privost, I,ve had it on my main air line for several years and have had it fail twice, The first time 6 months or so ago and then again today. The check valve sticks and I have to disassemble it to get...

    Compressor advice

I would look at the type compressor as well, if it is an oil-less diaphragm type vs a piston type, I would go for the piston type for longevity. I have had the same piston type compressor for over 35 years, a basic dayton 2 cyl with a 2 hp motor and 30 gal tank. A buddy of mine has gone through...

    My anode has been eaten!

Hey Cars, the normal anode rod is magnesium, if you change it to aluminum it should solve the problem.

    My anode has been eaten!

You are likely experiencing problems due to the ethylene glycol breaking down. Over time it breaks down to glycolic acid and lowers the pH. I highly recommend that when you refill the system use dowtherm sr1 if you are looking for EG and dowfrost HD if you are considering PG. These are designed...

GARAGE TIPS and TRICKS - POST 'em!

Hey Guys I thought I'd share some tips that have worked for me. I picked up a used hospital bed table ( you know the ones that crank up and down and fit over the bed) it had a solid top that slid with a tray underneath. I removed the top so the tray was exposed. It keeps small parts from rolling...
