Mine was quiet for 4 years. Now it's annoying. I'm not impressed with their customer service. The representative I spoke with spoke broken English. Hard to even understand at times. I got sick of arguing with her so when I get the new pad I'll have to call back and tell them it's still humming...
I had the same issue my 888LM pad failed and opened my shop door. When got up on ladder to open panel and check the light code I noticed a humming noise coming from the unit. I remember hearing the noise start a few weeks prior to the pad fail and thought it was just a ballast going bad in a...
Got it wired up. Used two 12v 120w marine bulbs with a dimmable transformer. It throws light out through a window all the way to the tree line about 150 yards outside. Still need to get the dimmer hooked up this week.
Yes, I'm well insulated and LP wasn't much over a buck when I filled up. I own my tank so I can choose whom and when to fill. I have a 500 g tank that also runs a standby generator. The winters of 11-12 and 12-13 I kept it at 50 and was able to go the two years with out filling the tank. So...
Glad I could help. I never was able to find out what kind of Loco or what railroad it came from but my best guess from photos was that it came from one of the EMD switchers.
I have the RobertsGordon. Not sure what the BTU is. Shop is 40X64X14 with a insulated R11 wall down the center so the heater is on one side heating a 32X40X14 area. Heater runs about 30' then turns 90 degrees and runs about 15' of exhaust tube until it turns another 90 and exits the building. I...
Thanks I did notice these. They are the flood type though. I need something with a clear lens to replicate the loco bulbs.
I can get original Loco bulbs in 30v 200W now I am wondering would one of these 24V 500W dimmable transformers power the 30V loco bulb...
Thanks for all the replies and suggestions so far. I did stop in to a large local industrial electrical supply company today and they where absolutely zero help. I'm gonna try the 12V marine par56 lamps with a dimmable transformer. Ill update when it works or doesn't work.
Yes there are very few NSP or VNSP available in 120v. Either have to get them in 12V marine or 30V train bulbs. The whole idea is to keep this as close to authentic looking as possible while dimly lit. Not really worried about having blinding light in the basement.
After some research tonight I have come up with this as a possible combination.
12v 300w dimmable transformers. Can use with a triac dimmer. The more expensive one is potted. Not sure what that means but it seems the only difference is you can use it with a cheaper dimmer...
Well I just did some research on the loco bulbs and they are 30v 200w. I always thought they were 74v like the rest of the auxiliary system runs on a locomotive. So I'm guessing those 300W bulbs would get to hot for that lamp housing? Though I don't plan on ever leaving it on bright for more...
I did check that one out. I noticed many of those 12V marine lamps only have a 100 hour life. That would get pricey as I probably be changing them a few times a year at that rate. Unfortunately this is one of them.
