Anyone replaced alternator slip rings? Help with tape and soldering please.

Also found the rectifier board, tolerance ring and suppression capacitor. None of them Bosch originals. To be determined over time how well each performs.

Anyone replaced alternator slip rings? Help with tape and soldering please.

I have a new slip ring arriving today. I did machine the old one down, there is very very little thickness left it would not be worth re-using.

Anyone replaced alternator slip rings? Help with tape and soldering please.

This is a Bosch 469 115amp Alternator from a 90's Porsche. 1. Does anyone know if that is likely high temperature tape holding the wiring to the rotor shaft? (see white band). I believe I need to cut it off in order to access the rotor wiring? Search tells me Kapton tape is a good high temp...

    De/ re-Soldering alternator rectifier - Hakko FX888 ?

I got the Hakko 557. It came with a cute tote bag (yay). Once the rectifier leads and terminals were clean the 888 had no trouble with it. it was probably the old solder and stiffness of the wiring that made the removal that much harder.

hex crimpers for battery lugs / terminals - recommendations?

Hi all I have a hammer crimper which works just fine. I'm going to be wiring up a car or two and sometimes find myself making parts to sell / give forum members. So I'd like something better than the hammer crimper. Next up project is are some short 2AWG jumpers with these terminals...

    De/ re-Soldering alternator rectifier - Hakko FX888 ?

The FX-888 struggled. Could be made to work, very slowly, not ideal. I ordered a Weller 200/260w from Amazon (not a 3rd party). Bad does not even begin to describe it. In decades of wrenching I've used so-so (harbor freight) to excellent (hakko, fluke etc) tools. All have done their job...

    De/ re-Soldering alternator rectifier - Hakko FX888 ?

I'm going to replace the rectifier on a Bosch 115a alternator. Some photos attached. I have a Hakko FX888 (rated 65w) and wide chisel tips. when one sees videos of this being done its with big 200w soldering irons, which in decades of fixing stuff Ive never needed. Don’t love buying a...

8' T12 LED replacements - (Hyperikon went bust) - or just swap to 4'?

Local Ace for the win! they stock these at a fraction of the Home Depot price. After a $5 orr $30 they were $15 per bulb. Good enough to get the lights back on. https://www.acehardware.com/departments/lighting-and-electrical/light-bulbs/linear-led/3005584?qtyRequested=1&deliveryRequested=false

8' T12 LED replacements - (Hyperikon went bust) - or just swap to 4'?

Anyone have experience with Feit's 8 footers? I can pick them up down the street. Price is right. Will the company be there in 5-10 years? Perhaps it doesn't matter at $25 per bulb...

8' T12 LED replacements - (Hyperikon went bust) - or just swap to 4'?

Does anyone see either of these for sale by the piece, not by the case of 10?

8' T12 LED replacements - (Hyperikon went bust) - or just swap to 4'?

Thanks I did not know there was a "good" eight footer. I'd rather stick with the fixtures that are installed and replace with a good tube.

8' T12 LED replacements - (Hyperikon went bust) - or just swap to 4'?

lol I went to school with the owner of RAB but not all that familiar with their line. Is there a product you had in mind? I checked and found I purchased the Philips 4' LED tubes in May of 2021 and they're going strong 4.5 years later. Price is about right too. Perhaps I do keep it simple...

8' T12 LED replacements - (Hyperikon went bust) - or just swap to 4'?

ARGH when I first moved into my garage ~7 years ago I bought what I thought was the Quality Reliable Not-Cheapo T12 replacement 8' tubes from Hyperikon. I'd used their MR16 and various other bulbs for years and admired them. Slowly, they have died one by one and the company is out of business...

    Gut check on price of steel '23 > '24 > '25

Hi all My day job is construction related and I am aware of volatility in metal pricing from both inflation and tariffs. That said I have been ordering cut to size 2" schedule 40 pipe for hobby automotive work from the same vendor in CT for several years. The price for a 12.5" long 2" OD...
