New Build Garage - What do you wish you had done?

Leave 3-4 feet from the overhead opening to the interior wall on each side. This gives you room for door swing on your vehicle and gives you room for a bench, stand-up tools, blast cabinet, etc. along each edge. Same for depth....go 36' deep if you can.

    Air compressor flex line

Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess I didn't realize you could get a swivel fitting with an NPT thread. Not sure I understand how that seals up, but hey, it obviously works!

    Air compressor flex line

I'm trying to figure out what to use for a flex line to go from my Quincy compressor to my piping run mounted on the wall. The compressor has a 1/2" npt outlet on a 1/4 turn valve. My piping run is 3/4" copper pipe. What kind of fitting should I sweat onto my 3/4" copper?

    Sheathing for Barn Wood Wall

I hung my barn wood vertically. I used OSB furring strips screwed to the studs to attach it, worked out great. I also stapled tar paper on the backside of large knot-holes so you wouldn't see the insulation.

    Racedeck install in Ohio

Racedeck was easy to install myself over a weekend and I personally like the grid look for this kind of finished space. I plan to do my other two bays in epoxy, those bays are the "working side" of the shop and have old barn tin/siding on the walls. Racedeck on that side just wouldn't look...

    Barn Living

I never lived in a barn but built and lived in my 36 x 42 detached garage while we were building my house. I knew I wanted to end up with a heated / ac detached with a bathroom, so we just built that first and moved in for 9 months. It was a PITA by the end because we essentially lived in one...

    Racedeck install in Ohio

Fitting the tiles around the toilet was the most challenging part. I made templates out of cardboard, then cut the tiles to match with a saber saw and a combination blade. Finally finished up and got my GTO back in her home:thumbup: All in all, very happy with the end result, still need to...

    Racedeck install in Ohio

The project slowed a bit when I got to the bathroom, much more cutting and fitting. I was happy to get my beer fridge back in place to get them puppies cold again:beer:

    Racedeck install in Ohio

Once I had everything squared up, it went pretty quick laying the bulk of the floor. When I designed my garage, I made sure I had the width of the finished bay just right so I didn't have to cut any tiles along either wall. Left about 1/2" gap on each side for expansion - worked out great!

    Racedeck install in Ohio

I don't know why the pictures are rotated? Once the fabric was down, I started to lay out the beveled tile and the first course across the opening and down the one side.

    Racedeck install in Ohio

Here's my Racedeck install from start to finish in the "clean bay". Started with a shop vac sweep and a mop with Simple Grey to make sure I was clean at the start. Then I started to lay out landscape fabric that I purchased at Lowe's.

4 post lift decking for storage

Somewhere else on this forum someone took an aluminum extension ladder and cut it into 44" lengths and then screwed plywood or aluminum diamond plate to each section. I took the idea and did the same. Bought a ladder off craigslist ($80) and cut it to length to fit between the runways on my...

    Beer Fridge for Man Cave?

I bought a one year old True beverage cooler for my garage and love it. Bought it off craigslist from a guy that deals in new/used restaurant equipment. No warranty....no issues so far....two years in.

    Bendpak RJ-45 question

Brings up my one pet peeve of this bridge jack: why did Bendpak use a control unit that has a foot operated pedal on it? It would literally be impossible to ever use the unit with your foot. I had to order a replacement "foot pedal" for my RJ-45 because I caught it on my suspension while...
