I know mine was chrome or plating of similar sort, it was flaking off the handle

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Finally finished up a Wilton 6” I inherited last year. I'm sure I broke tons of rules in the restoration but my main goal was to have it looking amazing even if not 100% correct, this is for me and someday my kids, not for selling. I put it on the mill to clean and true up the areas around the...

Remline boxes, pics if you got them.

1 little one done, 12 more and an entire box to go. I do like the stainless spanner truss head screws I found to replace the rivets, they don’t seem to stand out as much as other options I played with.

I believe Small Parts was purchased by Amazon 5-6 years ago, at least that is what I seem to remember.

Can anyone shed some light on what all is involved in taking apart a Wilton 2 piece dynamic jaw? I have a 1976 600 that I'd love to be able to take apart. Most of the schematics I've found do not show the dynamic jaw coming apart but I'm pretty sure mine is a 2 piece. If its easy I'd like to do...

60’s Remline Box - side shelf?

There are no handle holes on the shelf side that I can see, but there are on the left side. Its also hard to see but the top bracket hangs on the lip, its not bolted on. I'm not at all familiar with older boxes, did most of the brands have a similar thin edge at the top? I agree that it looks...

60’s Remline Box - side shelf?

The paint seems to match perfectly, even the underside that saw less UV is the same red as some of the other less exposed areas. BUT that doesn’t mean much because gramps was a phenomenal auto painter and could have easily matched it.

60’s Remline Box - side shelf?

I recently picked up an old Remline box that belonged to my grandfather. The top is 64 and the bottom 65. I’ve looked through many posts on here and have not found any pics or discussions on any side shelves. The one I have has some sort of side shelf and from the paint and screws it appears to...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Thanks for the info, I actually did not know what. I had seen them listed as model 09-600 on Ebay and just assumed that was the model number. Where would I find the 8-600 on the Dynamic jaw? I only see 1 2 3 and 101203 and they are a negative into the casting, not positive like the 9-600 on the...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I acquired this beast from my uncles estate when he passed away recently. It’s dirty and beat up but it isn’t abused or rusty so I’m thankful for that. It’s a 1976 09-600.

    1973 Wilton 9-600 Vise Restoration - 156lbs - 2’ long - 1’ tall

It’s definitely not a collector by any means and I’m not at all concerned about it being as it was new. I was mostly concerned with making it as nice looking as possible. It should turn out ok, hopefully get it done this week. Just need to blast the main body and paint it.

    1973 Wilton 9-600 Vise Restoration - 156lbs - 2’ long - 1’ tall

Very nice, love how it turned out. I’m currently going down a similar road with a slightly newer (76) version with the 2 piece jaw.

    Decent adjustable wrenches?

Does anyone know if the SK’s are rebranded something? They are made in USA, mine are a bit tighter than same age Channellock Spain units.

    Decent Soldering Iron?

I had a nice Weller for many years but it finally crapped the bed. We replaced it with an OKi (Metcal) and I have to say it’s been phenomenal, it just seems to be so much more consistent in temp. No idea what it cost but would highly suggest looking into one. It’s very heavy and made mostly of...

Remline boxes, pics if you got them.

First post here, been a pretty constant lurker for some time but since my uncle passed away in May I've been on here constantly finding info on old tools he had. One of the items I brought home was my Grandpas Remline set. Its in a very used state, lots of dents, some of the slides are more...
