Energy Star Mini Split Heat Pumps

Anyone installed a 2 evaporator one condenser split system? I'm planning a 35 x 40 shop with an apartment above. Heat will be hot water radiant, but I'd rather not put two systems in to separate garage from living space. Also, anyone know of an evaporator that can be mounted in an attic with...

Pseudo Terrazzo -- anyone try being creative

I'm in the process of planning my 35 x 40 detached garage. The floor will be radiant heat, powered by the house boiler via bored insulated pipe. I'm considering my finish options. I've always loved terrazzo (call me vintage) but I'd hate to add another layer of cost and reduced durability on...

    Planning 2600 sf Garage

Good insights. Actually, I do have an aircraft, and I was kind of planning the ability to do a complete restoration of some aircraft, someday, wings and all, in the shop. That said, another benefit of the hangar door would be summertime use as an awning, and to open up the shop in the summer...

    Planning 2600 sf Garage

I'm hot and heavy into planning a garage in northern Illinois. My code limits the garage to 2600 sf "gross" which means, for me, 1300 sf first floor and 1300 studio apartment/office above, and 26 foot height at the peak of the roof. This is my dream, rest of my life, house. Current plans are...

Another New Shop - Looking For Advice

I have 980 square feet to work with by code for a detached garage at the back of my property, and I'm limited to 15 feet total height. Here are my initial thoughts: I'd like to make it match my house which is cedar shake roof and white stucco/dryvit. I think I can get away with an overhang...

    Two Story Garage/Apartment

I have a bid in on a house with a nice large property north of Chicago. It has a converted barn at the back of the property, 2 cars wide by 1.5 cars long with a caving in roof and gravel floor, but I'm thinking about replacing it with a 4 car by 1.5 car shop, 1.5 story, with a studio...

    Overhead mounting compressor tank?

Thanks for the help. 690 pounds is not a lot of weight, and distributed over 4 points that is less than 200 pounds per point. I do wonder about how to tie into the roof beam. I'd hate to depend on threads, but I'm not sure I want to drill all the way through and put double nuts and a washer...

    Overhead mounting compressor tank?

Great suggestions. I'll plumb the compressor inlet to the outside. Any suggestion on a source for the spring mounts? I don't have an attic for the compressor. Can I separate the motor and compressor from the tank and mount them side by side to save height?

    Overhead mounting compressor tank?

I'm building out a 27 x 20 three stall garage into a compact home shop in an existing home. I've already poured a radiant heat floor and had the new floor epoxied.:) I'm short on floor space so I'm thinking of buying a horizontal compressor tank and mounting it overhead along the leftmost...
