Pole / steel / or stick

I have roughly 30k into building my 36x48x14 pole building... 16k for the kit (got the price locked before the rona situation) including doors, siding, one wall with clear span across the top, blanket insulation for walls and ceiling and all fasteners. Then 11k for the floor (~5.5" slab) then...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Today I put the carburetor for the 350X 3 wheeler through the sonic cleaner, it idles now... Yesterday I put in a new cam seal, timing belt and sealed the cam bolt real well on my old '90 Ranger, got the worst oil leak on the thing taken care of (cam bolt...), now there's something in the back...

    what is the best welder?

Keep an eye on the open box section of HFT, I've found crazy deals there over the years, but not as much since the rona... Not to discount the name brand stuff, which I'm sure is great, I'm just too cheap... I want the good stuff but can't justify it... Anywho, I found a Titanium MIG 170 for...

Is this odd or was I just wrong all my life

Lumber math is weird... I'm used to metal math where everything is what it says it is... building my shop last year I had to get used to construction math, it's very much different...

Fast Orange Hand Cleaner poor pump design

We use the Cintas hand cleaner with walnut shells at work, made by ZEP, it smells odd like gingerbred or something... Anywho, in the dispensers you can't get it all out so I scrounge the leftovers sitting around the wash sink and cut the bottles apart at home and use that... Once I get my shop...

    Eastwood Mini Lathe any good?

We have a 9" I think from LMS at work, it's a solid unit, very nice to use with the quick change post and enough stuff to use with it. Myself I have a "Speedway Series" 7x12" lathe, it's the one from the Homier truckload sales, got it off of craigslist for $250 I think 15 years ago. I like the...

HF US General Boxes, Are They Worth It?

Yeah, my second side box was supposed to show up mid April and I picked it up on Saturday

Harbor Freight 6" belt sander drive roller

Thanks, they have them for $27.50, I'll do some measurements then go for that most likely, the castings in the parts breakdowns look identical other than different options for things like easier belt changes and adjustment.

Harbor Freight 6" belt sander drive roller

A couple years ago I got a NIB 6" belt/disc sander for cheap at an auction, I finally got to assembling it and when I got close to done I noticed a rib in the center of the drive side of the belt, so I pulled the belt... Apparently it's made of two pieces threaded together and the whole external...

HF US General Boxes, Are They Worth It?

Yeah, I like the setup, I'm hoping not to have too much junk just out in the open like I have now in the garage... Getting everything on sale I think I have ~$1300 in that setup.

HF US General Boxes, Are They Worth It?

Oh yeah, the drawer latches aren't my favorite, my 4X" box doesn't have them. I'm thinking of converting them to detents like I saw someone do in the HFT box mod thread... I'll probably jack up the box and space the front casters down 1/8" too to help it naturally go backward...

I rented a mini excavator this weekend!

I rented one last June, one of the post holes for my shop had too much lumber in it to dig by hand (someone buried a bunch of lumber scraps about 6' deep right where I wanted a post for the shop that I didn't know of beforehand) so I rented one, was $300 for the day on the biggest one you could...

HF US General Boxes, Are They Worth It?

Here's my new box, it's a 56" top and bottom with two 7 drawer side boxes. The first one is on the right and is a little darker than the rest and the second one that's on the left... Conveniently I got everything either on sale or on one of the 20% off anything weekends... Since I just moved...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Picked up the chain hoist from my moms then put it on the gantry when I got home, realized it had enough chain for a 15-20' lift height! I broke the hand chain with a couple pairs of channel locks and shortened it to a reasonable length then lowered the hook to the floor and climbed up and zip...
