Elevate bathroom in garage or not?

So I'm getting ready to pour my shop floor and I'm torn on a few things. One is the bathroom/mechanical room. Do I keep it at slab level and run the waste lines under the concrete or do I just stub the main line up and frame the bathroom floor with conventional lumber and run my waste lines...

    septic line insulation question

Dig it up put 4 inches of pink board above it 2 feet wide and you should be good. If you didn't shovel it off you would probably never have a problem. Your septic tanks are not going to be really deep. Chances are they are not engineered to hold the weight of 4 plus feet of dirt. I live in VT...

    Stone tamping

I was in the same boat as you. I rented a plate compactor and one of these for 200.00 per day. That font roller vibrates like a compactor. I used it to do the center and the plate compactor for the edges. Well worth the money. There is about 2 1/2 feet of sand in there for fill plus about 8...

    Drill press advice

At 82 my dad has decided to liquidate his machine shop, honestly it was just time. Of course I went shopping first and now I'm helping him get rid of the other stuff. Here is the question. I presently have a set of 3 older Walker Turner drills on a production table. I like them and I'm...

    Transmission Tear Down table

Another thought is to find a old multi spindle drill press table. They come up cheap on CL all the time. Make sure someone never drilled thru the table and close the spindle mounting holes with some set screws or use one set to mount a vice or a holding fixture and your good. The coolant...

What is this drill press used for?

Common older machine shop item, like some people said it's a production drill. The trough is for coolant recovery. Most if not all of the major drill manufactures offered them in their catalogs. I have a three head Walker Turner set that I love. Once you get used to having them it's hard to go...

    Shed flooring options?

You guys without frost and mud season are so lucky. Up here skids, gravel and PT floors are the norm. One inch crushed stone will pretty much keep it's shape in the form of a pad without a border. We put a bunch of woodsheds on a one foot deep crushed stone base in a condo development, it's...

    Steel top for work bench?

I also mainly work on motorcycle stuff. I went with a 1/8 steel top. I bought a 4x8 sheet and Albany Steel bent it for me. If you look there is a channel in the front for fluids. It works great. Except for the steel top and lag bolts the rest of it was made from leftovers.
